Martignetti Companies is the leading distributor of wine and spirits in New England. From our Taunton Office, our Human Resources team supports approximately 1,700 employees at peak times. Our employees are in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Connecticut.

The Payroll Manager will play a key role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our payroll programs and administration. This includes ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll, safeguarding payroll data integrity, and driving operational efficiency.

This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing payroll policies and procedures that comply with company policies and local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.

The Payroll Manager will also be hands-on, assisting with payroll processing as needed.


This position is eligible to participate in our hybrid work schedule, which includes working in the Taunton office three days per week and remotely two days per week.


What You'll Do

  • Manage and collaborate with the payroll team to develop streamlined functionality
  • Entry of payroll transactions (i.e., timesheets, vacation requests, direct deposits, tax changes, etc.) into the payroll system
  • Oversee weekly and biweekly payroll and all applicable payments/vouchers/uploads to vendor
  • Oversee and ensure a smooth quarterand yearend payroll process
  • Manage deferred compensation and performancebased compensation and all retirement plans
  • Assists with and at times leads audit reconciliations and reporting requests
  • Drives a culture of strong internal customer service
  • Stays current with payroll and timekeeping laws and ensures compliance, resolving any issues
  • Identifies process improvement initiatives and defines standards for new processes
  • Analyze and implement collective bargaining agreements from a payroll perspective and the complexities of multiple pay structures
  • Maintain a process to ensure the integrity and accuracy of payroll data by conducting reconciliations and detailed audits to ensure accurate processing
  • Research and propose system enhancements and payroll process improvements
  • Manage and/or assist with special projects, e.g. system enhancements, and payroll upgrades
  • Proactive in identifying new trends, and forwardthinking payroll processes
  • Serve as a liaison between thirdparty vendors and the Finance and Human Resources departments.

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to drive and motivate to achieve results
  • Strong math skills and attention to detail

Requirements:


Education/Training/Experience

  • Associate degree or higher preferred but previous work in payroll will be taken into consideration
  • Minimum 3 years experience leading and managing a payroll department
  • Minimum of 6 years of Payroll required
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred
  • Experience with Paylocity Payroll Software a major plus
  • Experience in accounting, payroll budget development and management
  • Advanced competency in Microsoft Word, Excel (VLOOKUP, Sum if, Nested Formulas, Pivot tables), and Outlook required
