Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a grocery retail setting
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items and stand for extended periods
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Physical requirements:


  • Continuous hand manipulation including, grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
  • Reaching above and at shoulder level
  • Standing up to 8 hours per day
  • Bending and twisting up to 5 hours per day
  • Walking, squatting and kneeling up to 2 hours per day
  • Lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. frequently
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Exposure to noise (Front end check stand noise)

Responsibilities:


As a checker at Gelson's, you will play a crucial role in ensuring we provide exceptional customer service at the checkout station.

The primary responsibility of the checker is to attend to the needs of every customer and ensure a top quality experience.

You will have a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to excellence.

The checker is responsible for operating the cash register and check stand to provide our customers with the most accurate and efficient service possible.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Welcome and assist customers with excellent customer service, attentive listening, and resourceful assistance. Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently and handle cash, credit, debit card, and all other media transactions.
  • Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the check stand area, ensuring an inviting and organized environment. Stock merchandise in assigned sections as needed.
  • Collect and ensure accuracy of tended forms of payment in accordance with cash handling procedures; provide the correct amount of change when applicable.
  • Keep management informed of any pricing problems or discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations. Follow all liquor and tobacco laws implicitly including the verification and authenticity of valid, acceptable identification.
  • Embrace new challenges and be a flexible team player, taking on responsibilities as needed.
  • Operate cash registers and handle customer transactions accurately.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.
