The Department of Anesthesiology at The Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking an Obstetric Anesthesiologist join our team.

Position Highlights

• 100% on patient care focused position
• Clinical activities based at Froedtert Hospital and Froedtert Birth Center
• Participate in care of patients in the ORs and non-OR sites at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital (FMLH) and Froedtert Birth Center
• Provide leadership and guidance to perioperative team members to optimize patient care safety, quality, and efficiency
• Partner with Anesthesiology Residents, Anesthesiology Medical Students and Anesthesiology Assistant Students
• Participate in clinical education of residents, medical students and other trainees while working clinically
• Provide lectures or other educational programs as requested, as well as other educational and research projects

• Facilitate professionalism and to allow collaborative behaviors in the OR

Department of Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology at MCW includes 120 clinical faculty members, approximately 90 certified nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologist assistants, 10 active research faculty members, 66 residents and 17 fellows in pediatric anesthesia, cardiac anesthesia, obstetric anesthesia, critical care, regional acute pain, and pain medicine.

The Department anesthesiology team serves multiple sites both near the Froedtert and MCW campus, as well as several community sites and covers both ambulatory and in-patient services.

Affiliated clinical sites include Froedtert Hospital, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW), Zablocki Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC), Community Memorial and West Bend Hospitals, and four ambulatory surgery centers in SE Wisconsin.

Froedtert Birth Center

Froedtert Birth Center (FBC) is a high-risk pregnancy referral site. FBC located in Children's Hospital of Wisconsin next to the Level IV NICU. FBC was recently awarded the SOAP Center of Excellence designation. It is an ACOG Level IV center.

FBC has 3,400 deliveries per year with a 25% Cesarean section rate and an 85% rate of epidural labor analgesia.

We have a multidisciplinary high-risk antenatal clinic that includes maternal fetal medicine, OB anesthesia, hematology, adult congenital heart disease, etc.

The OB anesthesia division includes 6 core faculty (4 OB anesthesia fellowship trained and 2 fellowship equivalent), 6 OB anesthesia committed faculty, and 4 certified anesthesiologist assistants (CAA).

We also have one OB anesthesia fellowship position.

Education

Our education program is highlighted by our highly regarded residency program with positions for 80 physicians-in-training, including interns and residents.

We also provide specialty training through ACGME-approved fellowships in Pediatric Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, Obstetric Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine and Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, and additional fellowships in Regional Anesthesia and Neuroanesthesia.

Our dedication to training the next generation of physician-scientists is evidenced through our success in recruiting trainees into our NIH training grants (T32 and T35).

In addition to our resident and fellow training programs, we offer a Master of Science in Anesthesia program - one of just 20 in the nation.

We launched our program in 2016, recognizing a growing need for skilled anesthetists in Wisconsin and throughout the country. The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

Research

Research in the Department is internationally recognized for its contributions to calcium channel biophysics, vascular reactivity, myocardial protection, and experimental neurosciences, with a focus on traumatic brain injury and the physiology and pharmacology of pain modulation.

Our research is supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin, the VA, American Heart Association and the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, among others.

Education, Training and Experience

• Completion of an anesthesiology residency from an accredited program
• Completion of an Obstetric Anesthesiology Fellowship preferred
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology
• Eligible for medical licensure in Wisconsin
