Job Goal


The Assistant Superintendent for PreK Schools provides supervision and leadership to administrators and other District staff to ensure each student of the District is provided with the richest educational experience possible within the resources of the District.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree and Administrative Coursework in Education Related Field
  • Appropriate Arizona administrative certification
  • Minimum three years teaching experience
  • Knowledge of standards and researchedbased instruction
  • Successful administrative experience
  • Secondary experience preferred

Core Job Functions

District Responsibilities

  • Prepare new or revised Board policies, procedures and administrative practices for the Superintendent's review and action as needed.
  • Comply with regulations, procedures and plans which reflect Board policy and provide maximum efficiency to support the educational program.
  • Serve as a member of the Superintendent's executive management team and cabinet.
  • Serve on and chair committees at the discretion of the Superintendent.
  • Attending official district functions as the Superintendent may direct.
  • Uphold and honor all contractual agreements entered by the district offices and recommend additional contractual requirements to the Superintendent.
  • Respond to all correspondence in a timely manner and prepare and disseminate reports required by the Superintendent.
  • Perform in other areas of responsibility as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Supervision over Executive Directors for Schools

Instruction/Curriculum

  • Provide direction to PreK12 principals and executive directors in the organization and presentation of instruction and the solution of instructional problems.
  • Coordinate with District Administrators an ongoing implementation of the District PreK12 instruction including Strategic Plan.
  • Work cooperatively and as a resource to the District's instructional technology program.
  • Keep informed as to the operation of the PreK12 instructional program in all schools for the purpose of evaluating the instructional program and for improving teaching procedures through conferencing, demonstration, and supervisory techniques.
  • Report status of programs, services, assessment, and evaluation at the request of the Superintendent.

School/Community Relations

  • Provide leadership and supervision of District administration in the area athletic programs and PreK12 discipline.
  • Work with principals to develop and maintain community partnerships with business, parents, community members and educational institutions.
  • Participate in communitybased organizations and activities.
  • Promote programs at the site and District level which encourage parent involvement.
  • Develop and implement programs which assess parent opinion, satisfaction, and support.
  • Assist parents in resolving concerns.
  • Engage community partners as volunteers.

Personnel/Leadership

  • Provide leadership and supervision to building site administrators and other District staff, as assigned.
  • Effectively communicate to staff to keep them informed.
  • Maintain required formal evaluation procedures for all staff under their supervision.
  • Direct the preparation of action plans to meet goals of the District Strategic Plan, as well as to meet the needs of the individual building.
  • Promote and support curriculum planning and inservice education for the professional staff.
  • Direct and review the principals' evaluations of each member of the building faculty and staff.
  • Assist in the selection of administrators.
  • Recommend staffing patterns to the Superintendent.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with schoolbased and Districtlevel administrators to ensure information exchange, coordination of efforts and general support for the decisionmaking process.

Business

  • Monitor and approve expenditures of funds through the budget and other sources. Coordinate with principals the development of the budget for the operation of the schools of the District.
  • Develop budget recommendations.
  • Assist in the budget planning and PreK12 textbooks, instructional materials, capital equipment, travel and inservice training.
  • Develop projections of student personnel populations based upon a grid system and established criteria to determine attendance boundaries and school enrollment.
  • Project faculty and staff requirements for appropriate operation of schools.
  • Supply projections for facilities expansion and improvement for schools in the District.

Professional Development

  • Keep current with educational developments and literature in the field of education and participate in the affairs of state and national professional organizat
