MHC Healthcare is seeking a Medical Assistant Supervisor to join the Patient Care team at the Wilmot Health Center, located in Tucson, AZ.

The Medical Assistant Supervisor promotes patients' health by providing supervision, guidance, mentorship, and oversight to the Medical Assistant (MA) staff and assists clinicians with care for patients in clinical and behavioral health.

MHC Healthcare is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC), with 17 sites in Tucson and Pima County. Our mission is to improve our Community by providing exceptional, whole-person healthcare.


The following qualifications are required:


  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years' experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Valid current credential as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from an accredited organization
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (may be completed with MHC upon hire)
  • First Aid certification (may be completed with MHC upon hire)
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Current Arizona driver's license with clean driving record and proof of current vehicle insurance (39month MVR will be run by MHC)

The following qualifications are preferred:


  • Associate degree in healthcare or business related field
  • Supervisory experience, or experience as a seniorlevel or lead Medical Assistant
  • Experience with Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)


Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if applicable and must be directly related to the functions and body of knowledge required to successfully perform the job.


This position has the following supervisory responsibility:

  • Supervises and monitors performance for an assigned group of employees. Supervisory duties include hiring and disciplinary actions, overseeing work assignments and quality, scheduling and timekeeping, performance evaluations, and training and development.
  • Competent in providing appropriate care for all age groups.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations related to the MA scope of care.
  • Knowledge of chronic disease management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with ability to manage competing demands and adapt to frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Plans, administers, and supervises the daytoday activities of MA staff.
  • Coordinates MA schedules and work assignments to support adequate clinician and site coverage.
  • In collaboration with the Nursing Manager, ensures MA staff is equipped with orientation, mentoring, competency, and ongoing training to provide high quality patient care.
  • Ensures activities are carried out in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as a liaison between clinicians and the MA team.
  • Supervises and administers the daily operational tasks within the patient care area.
  • Assists clinicians with patient care, examinations, and procedures and performs other MA duties as needed.
  • Maintains communication and collaborates with clinicians, other departments, and staff to avoid conflicts with schedules or clinic workflows, and identifies and addresses concerns in a timely manner.
  • Ensures MAs obtain and document proper patient consent prior to treatments and procedures.
  • Conducts frequent quality assurance audits of assigned staff.
  • Completes assigned projects, which may require reviewing and analyzing information, identifying problems, and making recommendations for solutions.
  • Performs as a superuser, as needed, providing training related to EMR processes and upgrades.
  • Ensures MAs maintain documentation of patient care services by completing patient and department records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensures quality of care by maintaining clinical standards and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Protects patients and employees by complying with infection control policies and protocols and following medication administration and storage procedures.
