As a Crisis Intervention Officer or Security Officer at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital you will patrol the facilities and grounds; assist with the welfare and safety of personnel and patients; investigate critical incidents; assist employees, patients and visitors; interface with emergency response agencies; and monitor parking and traffic control.

Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.

We are currently looking to fill FULL-TIME DAY SHIFTs.

DAY SHIFTS:

Shift A:
(Sun-Wed) Sun - Tues 6am-6pm, then 1⁄2 Wed (6am

Shift B:

NIGHT SHIFTS:

Shift C:

This position requires the incumbent to work effectively as a part of an interdisciplinary team, providing critical resources and support to individuals in crisis.

Performs assigned security duties promptly and accurately. Works varied assignments and shifts. Provides guidance and assistance to other security officers and leaders with incidents involving an individual in crisis.


CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Responds to mental health emergencies and crisis. Uses verbal de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies, along with Banner Health and/or community resources available, to assist in effectively resolving the crisis peacefully.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with technicians, nurses, therapist, physicians, law enforcement, community resources and others in the prevention, response and continued support of crisis intervention services.
  • Assists medical staff in restraining and handling troubled/combative patients. Ensures security policies are being followed. Patrols unoccupied areas and sets the alarms when appropriate. Locks and unlocks facility doors at prescribed times. Conducts money pick-ups from departments, logs pick-ups and successfully delivers the contents to the appropriate destination department. Releases bodies from the morgue, ensuring that all paperwork is complete. Checks alarms to ensure they are in proper working order. Escorts patients, visitors and employees when required for security purposes. Participates in security training designed for staff.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws and regulations. Performs "citizen arrest" and demonstrate critical thinking skills during extremely stressful situations as needed.
  • Appropriately and effectively utilizes assigned non-lethal weapon according to policy and training.
  • Investigates and completes written reports of complaints, critical security incidents and unusual activities involving patients, employees and visitors. Maintains an accurate log of all relevant security activities during each shift. Based on area of assignment may assist in the maintenance and preservation of confidential health documents including scanning into electronic patient health information systems.
  • Professionally testifies in criminal court, mental health court, state hearings and review boards when required.
  • This position must interact with and support all levels of end users throughout the facility, including security officers, technicians, nurses, therapist, physicians, visitors, and patients. This position will coordinate activities with facility and system levels. This position must collaborate and interact with all levels of management and staff, other healthcare members, and the community for the purpose of supporting crisis intervention services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

Diverse security experience as normally obtained through two years of security related experiences. Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal skills, sound judgement, and strong safety skills to effectively defuse volatile situations.

Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform physical requirements of the position.

Must successfully complete 40-hour crisis intervention team course and annual in-service training. Capabilities will be demonstrated through the successful complet
