Key


Responsibilities:


  • Assist students with self-care, hygiene, behavior, and academics under the supervision of a certified teacher
  • Prepare for classroom activities under supervision of certified teacher.
  • Perform clerical work.
  • Assist in managing the classroom environment including class displays, bulletin boards, centers, and instructional support materials.
  • Care for equipment.
  • Assist teacher with instructional activities.
  • Assist teacher in duties relating to the supervision/behavior management of students in areas outside the classroom including the cafeteria, hallway, playground, media center, and bus loading/unloading area.
  • Provide instruction with individuals/ small groups to reinforce understanding and mastery of concepts, under the supervision of a certified teacher
  • Support behavior intervention programs by providing positive behavior supports and consistency in implementing behavior intervention plans
  • Prepare and implement accommodations/modifications as outlined in the Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • Participate in professional development/training classes and conferences designed to enhance knowledge and skills as determined in cooperation with the Superintendent, and maintain certification as required by the Professional Standards Commission.
  • Assist in lifting children (up to 75 lbs.) who are confined to a wheel chair to facilitate self-care activities
  • Review current development literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to appropriate safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies and administrative directives.
  • Support students and staff with encouragement and by build positive relationships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Hold or be eligible for required certification.
  • Ability to build relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
  • Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students particularly during emergency situations.
