    Description


    The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) is seeking a Program Manager for Translational Science, Cancer to manage a team and portfolio of large public-private research collaborations focused on identifying opportunities to validate and standardize assays, biomarkers and drug development tools for immune and other related oncology needs including patient centric clinical trials.

    Our research partnerships are made up of leading experts in the field from biopharmaceutical companies, healthcare not-for-profit and patient advocacy organizations, government agencies, and academic institutions.

    This is a non-research, administrative management position requiring excellent interpersonal and writing skills, a high level of organization, diplomacy, focus, ability to work under tight deadlines, and familiarity with biomedical research environments.

    The Program Manager will provide management of all aspects of the team and portfolio. The position title will be dependent and negotiable upon the applicant's background and qualifications.

    Position Requirements

    Successful candidates for the role will be able to demonstrate :


    Project management experience to manage all aspects of multiple projects, applying knowledge of process, finance, and contracts to project activities to ensure goals are met on time and within budget.

    Expertise in the development and management of grants and/or contracts, including evaluation and refinement of statements of work, project budgets, milestones, and deliverables.

    Strong record of managing relationships among scientific and administrative partners from diverse sectors of biomedical science (e.g., government, academia, and/or private sector partners, industry, and not-for-profit organizations) with a desire to provide service excellence.

    Diplomatically facilitates discussions involving diverse interests, leading groups to consensus and guiding others to enhance this skill.

    Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor communications to relevant audiences and develop rapport with colleagues within the FNIH and with external partners.

    Strong analytical, critical-thinking abilities to proactively identify potential problems and work with teams to fill gaps identified.
    Learns quickly and make decisions independently to meet tight deadlines.
    Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
    High degree of flexibility and adaptability to organizational priorities.

    Readiness and judgment to supervise staff and assumes additional responsibility for project governance and some aspects of portfolio governance as required.

    Ability to create and identify a network of key external stakeholders to support and grow the portfolio.

    What We Are Looking For:


    Oversees cancer disease area activities including all Executive Committee governance bodies and key meetings with senior NIH IC leaders for the portfolio.

    Assists in cross portfolio duties with other disease area organizational leaders.
    Develops and leads special projects with support from organizational leadership.
    Manages cancer team staff and is responsible for the review of all deliverables.

    Leads active business development to recruit new projects or programs to the cancer area portfolio, focusing on external partnership outreach.

    Recruits new external portfolio stakeholders and builds active relationships with relevant external organizations for joint meetings and collaborations.
    Presents at appropriate external meetings to represent projects and FNIH-wide interests.

    Preferred Qualifications:


    Master's Degree and 15+ years of relevant project management experience or PhD and 10+ years of relevant project management experience.

    5+ years of experience in staff and small team management; Or demonstrates transferable ability to manage teams.
    5+ years of relevant stakeholder management experience within a similar organization(s).
    Deep content knowledge and relationships in the field specific to cancer research and cancer clinical trials.
