Job Summary


The position is responsible for promoting a safe working environment in all Company facilities by ensuring compliance with all OSHA and Cal-OSHA guidelines, and by maintaining the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP).

The Safety and Training Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing and overseeing our safety program for our 24-hour operation.

  • The Safety and Training Specialist will focus on our safety and training program, and workers compensation (WC) administration. The position will also coordinate our Department Leadership Training series and is highly engaged with production personnel in the manufacturing and operational areas.

Job Functions

  • Develops the Safety vision and action plans for all Company facilities, including culture change for safety programs.
  • Works cross functionally with all departments to ensure safety compliance.
  • Enforces safety work practices and investigates workplace accidents.
  • Responds and provides guidance and assistance for all emergency situations.
  • Develops and coordinates a job safety program.
  • Maintains the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) System.
  • Develops and maintains the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP), accident and training records and updates regulatory logs.
  • Coordinates workers compensation benefits and incident tracking with provider and acts as main liaison for all OSHA related compliance and investigatory issues.
  • Maintains, creates, communicates, and enforces compliance with safetyrelated policies and procedures.
  • Identifies safety issues and recommends appropriate disciplinary and corrective actions for safetyrelated infractions.
  • Determines the need for new safetyrelated policies and procedures that may include writing, editing, and updating policy and procedure documents, handbooks, and posters.
  • Frequently performs safety inspections in all job site locations, offices, and company vehicles.
  • Ensures all contractors, vendors, and customers comply with the Company Safety policies.
  • Administers the Safety Shoe Wear program, Safety Eyewear program, Personal Productive Equipment program and security door access process.
  • Administers annual required trainings, including but not limited to ammonia, first aid/CPR, forklift, hearing, respiratory protection, etc.
  • Performs other duties or responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

_ Training_

  • Assist with safety meetings, provides training for the health and safety of all employees on a weekly, biweekly, and monthly schedule for a wide range of safetyrelated topics.
  • Assures all training programs comply with Company policy as well as local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Ensures all employees are properly trained regarding Company specific and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Coordinates Leadership and Department specific training.

_ Workers' Compensation_

  • Administers and maintains WC files and processes WC claims to carrier timely.
  • Works directly with injured workers (IW) as part of the interactive process, with supervisors, providers, and carriers to provide the best care and a successful return to work process for the IW.
  • Ensures WC filing and reporting are within regulatory compliance.
  • Provides data analytics related to incidents and WC trends including near misses, recordable injuries, first aid, medical only, etc.
  • Administers the returntowork program and works directly with the IW and management to ensure the interactive process is being followed.

Job Qualifications

  • Fluency in English/Spanish.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Develop and deliver presentations on compliance topics to plant management, employees, plant staff, and public groups when requested.
  • Develop and lead training sessions, coach and mentor staff, exercise logic and reason using factbased decision making.
  • Strong time management, training, and organizational development skills.
  • Strong mathematical and Microsoft Office skills
  • Outlook, Word, and advanced Excel.
  • Proven track record in a safety management role with a minimum of four to six years of experience managing and administering safety and workers compensation programs.
  • Experience collaborating and supporting continuous improvement programs and Lean Manufacturing practices in environmental health and safety is highly desired.
  • Experience in a lead role managing safety culture change initiatives and safety programs.
  • Supervision experience with nonexempt employees.

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.
