About the Agency:


The Department of Military Affairs provides professional and responsive state support functions to the Adjutant General of Virginia, to the Virginia Army and Air National Guard, as well as the Virginia Defense Force in a diverse range of support functions.

Whether we are providing purchasing or State Active-Duty support to National Guard Civil Support missions, building new facilities, maintaining current facilities, operating range and training sites, providing human resource and payroll support, managing real property resources, helping give teens a better chance for success at Commonwealth ChalleNGe Youth Academy, teaching STEM to 5th graders at our STARBASE program, or the many other support functions which the
DMA Team is involved in.

About the Position:
This position will work within the Directorate of Facilities Management located at Fort Barfoot.

The incumbent of this position will provide guidance and oversight for successful completion of construction related projects for both state and federal construction missions.

This position will also be responsible for inspecting assigned projects including repair, sustainment, maintenance, renovation, Military Construction (MILCON), capital and non-capital outlay, and construction.

The new staff member will work to ensure completed projects conform to the stated requirements.


Job Duties:
Verify the installation of proper materials methods, clearances, etc. per plans, specifications, standards, and submittals.

Observe and report on all tests required by the contract documents.

Maintain project inspection log, quality control/deficiency log, and all project documentation.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Extensive experience & traderelated training in construction is required;
  • Knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Construction and Professionals Services Manual (CPSM);
  • Ability to read and interpret working drawings & specifications;
  • Knowledge of the codes and standards referenced in the contract documents which stipulate the requirements for installation and workmanship;
  • Knowledge and experience in construction materials, methods, and standard practices and procedures;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with design professionals, contractors, fiscal technicians, project managers, peers, and supervisors;
  • Knowledge of basic safety and OSHA procedures and regulations;
  • Must have a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record;
  • Willingness to travel to various areas statewide on a weekly basis with frequent overnight travel;
  • Ability to climb ladders, lift 50 lbs., inspect foundations, roofs, and other components of buildings during construction, working in a variety of weather and environmental conditions;
  • Ability to use computers, Microsoft Office, plotters, and general office equipment.

Additional Considerations

  • Licensed general contractor with the Commonwealth of Virginia;
  • Experience as a project inspector to include site experience.
