    Florida International University College of Law Library seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and innovative law librarian to join our team as the Head of Instructional Services Law Librarian.

    This position is responsible for engaging the College of Law and FIU community through instruction on law library services and legal research in a variety of settings.

    The Head of Instructional Services will administer a curriculum of instructional programs and courses from the FIU Law Library, utilizing existing and emerging instructional and library services technologies.

    This law librarian will be expected to teach the upper-division Advanced Legal Research courses in the JD and other auxiliary programs, and other similar for-credit courses as they are developed.

    Additionally, this position will provide subject-specific and legal research instruction as an FIU Law Librarian, supporting Legal Skills and Values, experiential and seminar courses, as well as co-curricular programs.

    As a member of a forward-thinking library valued for its responsive and evolving services, the successful candidate will have practical law librarianship experience, with a strong foundation in research and reference support services in an academic law library, and dedication to innovation in the provision of law library services.

    Responsibilities


    • Administers the Law Library's for-credit and non-credit instructional interactions, creating a unified curriculum for the FIU Law Library, ensuring responsive innovation in delivery, leveraging modern modes of instruction and legal research pedagogy; manages law librarian lecturing and instructional activities, law library programs and vendor trainings.
    • Develops legal research and resource training courses and programs for FIU Law; specializes in Legal Skills and Values program faculty and student support, demonstrating and exploring innovative legal research and resource pedagogical techniques.
    • Administers and engages in FIU Law Library outreach activities; manages all programming, promotion of law library services, internal FIU Law relations, and external relations. Represents the Law Library at the campus, regional and national levels.
    • Provides research consultations to FIU Law students, faculty and administration responsive to legal research and cross-disciplinary needs; develops specialized research expertise as needed in support of the scholarship and teaching of FIU Law faculty.
    • Provides reference services to support the mission and scholarly pursuits of the FIU community, responding to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
    • Provides instruction via programs and workshops; guest lectures in FIU Law and FIU courses.
    • Teaches Advanced Legal Research and for-credit courses as assigned and budgeted. Law Librarians are compensated separately for teaching any FIU for-credit courses.
    • Explores new and emerging legal research methods and technologies, including those supporting data and analytics research.
    • Identifies new resources and maintains current awareness services related to law librarianship, legal education and pedagogy, and substantive legal subjects.
    • Contributes to the COL, the profession and grows professionally through substantive involvement in committee work, research, publishing and/or participation in professional organizations at national, regional, section, and local levels.
    • Creates and maintains research guides, specialized course resources and research resources in print and electronic formats.
    • Participates in collection development activities and makes recommendations in keeping with lowering the cost of education principles.
    • Fill in for other law librarians and provide back-up supervision for FIU Law Library functions as needed.
    • Serve as back-up for Assistant Director of Library Services.
    • Other duties as assigned or directed to fulfill the mission and strategic goals of FIU, FIU Law and FIU Law Library.
    Qualifications


    • JD from ABA accredited institution
    • MLIS from ALA accredited institution.
    • 3+ years of experience in an academic law library or equivalent
    • Demonstrated ability to instruct in a variety of formats and modes, leveraging modern pedagogical techniques, including distance online synchronous or asynchronous, hybrid or blended, and face-to-face instructional modes.
    • Demonstrated ability to create digital library resources, such as research and resource guides, through web pages, LibApps, video, graphics, and other formats.
    • Strong customer service orientation.
    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to excel both independently and as a responsible team member in a collaborative and efficient work environment.
    • Ability to work effectively with broad populations including faculty, students, researchers, and the general public.
    • Experience with community engagement and outreach.
    • Excellent oral, organizational and written communication skills.
    • Excellent time management skills; understanding of hierarchy of needs and ability to manage expectations and priorities.
    • Evidence of project planning and management skills.
    • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
    Desired Qualifications


    • Experience teaching Advanced Legal Research upper-level course in an academic law school setting; legal research instruction outside of for-credit coursework will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
    • Demonstrated experience developing asynchronous tutorials.
    • Experience with collaborative library content management systems, web content management systems, and understanding of content and data management workflows.
    • Knowledge of non-MARC metadata formats, standards and schemas utilized in providing research and scholarship support services in a digital library environment.
    • Working group or committee experience in integrated library systems.
    • Experience in graphic design for library resources, services and/or outreach.
    • Foreign language fluency.
