The Anesthesia Technician provides general assistance to anesthesia providers before, during, and immediately following surgical procedures and activities. Performs routine duties to maintain a clean, safe, well-prepared work environment.


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acquires anesthesia equipment and supplies for surgical procedures and workroom. Maintains a neat, clean, and stocked work area.
  • Demonstrates successful communication skills with anesthesia providers and O.R. staff. Responds in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates Universal Precautions (Infection Control) during all patient care and handling of equipment.
  • Responds quickly and calmly in emergency situations. May assist with CPR and other appropriate activities as directed.
  • Demonstrates appropriate priority in decision making and schedule changes within the scope of the responsibilities of the position.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Must stand for up to a total of 4 hours per shift, 2 hours at a time. Must walk for up to 4 hours per shift, 10 minutes at a time. Frequent fingering, twisting and turning and handling of objects, and occasional firm grasping of objects required. Frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 25 pounds. Occasional pushing and pulling of objects up to 350 pounds. Occasional lifting of patients, as a team, of up to 350 pounds. Frequent stooping and bending required. Frequently must reach above shoulder level. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, color and peripheral vision.


EDUCATION:
High school graduate or equivalent.


TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
On the job knowledge. Knowledge of medical terminology desirable. CPR certification every two years.


WORK SHIFT:
Part time days, as scheduled. 24 hours per week. Weekend and holiday requirements. Shift rotation may be required to meet staffing needs.
