    Position Summary & Responsibilities


    Position Summary:


    The CTS is responsible for administrative leadership, staff coverage, patient care delivery, and compliance of all Larned State Hospital Policy and Procedure.

    The CTS in this position must guide and encourage employee participation in quality initiatives through application of overall knowledge of the agency and its programs; encourage involvement and commitment to performance improvement activities; support the hospital in the pursuit of its mission.

    Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

    Supervision


    • Make timely, fair, reasonable and understandable decisions.
    • Provides timely and appropriate follow up with employees
    • Provides frequent performance feedback and coaching
    • Establishes and evaluates core competencies
    • Set and communicate expectations regarding performance, behavior, attitude and conduct that are measurable, understanding, verifiable and reasonable through the use of tools such as the position description and performance review.
    • Confront poor performance or behavior and address the issues in a prompt manner.
    • Model the behavior expected of others.
    • Demonstrate support for decisions regarding the agency's strategic direction.
    • Facilitate the flow of information among employees and teams by gleaning relevant and important information and presenting it clearly and concisely, using an appropriate medium (e.g. provide shift report).
    • Ensure employees know and understand the hospital's mission, vision and value; relevant policy changes and what is different, if anything, from what has been in place, for employees to exert their efforts and emphasis for any expected change.
    Administrative Leadership


    • Maintains optimal coverage to meet patient care needs based on patient acuity levels for shift and steps in to perform the MHDD Technician role when patient acuity necessitates addition to core staffing. Consults with UL/ADON/Chief Nursing Officer if adjustments are recommended.
    • Assigns staff's attendance at training.
    • Serves as resource person to nursing personnel
    • Responsible for knowledge of and compliance with all applicable standards and policies and procedures.
    • Maintains compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency guidelines.
    • Ensures and re-enforces effectiveness of orientation to the unit and work of new employees and transferred nursing staff.
    • Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice if applicable
    • Collaborate patient care with all members of the treatment team/programs with appropriate staff.
    • Communicates significant issues.
    • Assess nursing staff for educational needs and communicates as appropriate to the Unit Leader.
    Safety/Security


    • Observe and assess violent sexual predators committed to the Sexual Predator Treatment Program.
    • Investigate and recommend consequences to behaviors and issues in conjunction with Therapist(s) and Unit Leader.
    • Assist L.S.H. Risk Management and/or Safety & Security regarding investigation processes.
    • Coordinate, supervise, & document resident, unit, and room searches.
    • Assist in managing disruptive or aggressive residents through the use of appropriate de-escalation and/or CPI techniques.
    • Coordinate with transport staff to ensure transportation of residents in a safe/secure manner pursuant to LSH policy.
    • Ensures periodic checks are provided for patients requiring special precautions per L.S.H., Nursing policy, and procedures.
    • Responds to crisis situations on unit or other areas as needed.
    Resident Interaction


    • Take vital signs, blood glucose, cultures, or other tests as ordered by physician or licensed nursing staff.
    • Enforce unit rules in a fair and consistent manner.
    • Document interactions in resident chart.
    • Recognizes and responds to changing patient condition(s).
    • Notes changes in behavioral and/or physical conditions, documents appropriately, and report's findings to appropriate personnel.
    • Ensures that MH/DD staff understand and assist in implementation of assigned patient treatment goals and objectives.
    • Completes rounds on the unit daily to ensure residents' basic needs are met (e.g. assist with toileting needs, monitor hygiene practices, encourage compliance with medical treatment and orders, etc.)
    Maintains a safe, secure and therapeutic environment


    • Demonstrates good personal hygiene and follows infection control guidelines, including frequent hand hygiene.
    • Provides for safety and accountability of patients on living units, at meals, in classroom, at work sites, during activities, and in program hygiene areas.
    • Intervenes to prevent injury to patient or others per de-escalation techniques, using CPR approved procedures.
    • Coordinates the security of items that pose a safety /security risk, searches for contraband as indicated by LSH, Nursing policy, and procedures reports/documents any threat of patient safety/security.
    • Coordinates sitter nursing services for patients hospitalized in other facilities.
    • Protects confidentiality of PHI by following HIPAA regulations.
    • Monitors emergency equipment per nursing procedure.
    • Ensures staff knows assigned patient goals and objective.
    • Serves as a resource person to nursing staff members, students and other employees.
    • Presents self as a professional image/role model to direct care staff and other.

    Qualifications


    • Minimum Qualifications:
    • One year experience in direct care
    • Requires an approved drug test approved by the Kansas Department of Administration unless the incumbent is moving from one safety-sensitive position to another safety-sensitive position within the same agency performing substantially similar duties.
    • Ability to pass a KBI background check
    • CPR Certification within 60-days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
    • CPI Certification within one month of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
    • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Ability to pass a KBI background and pre-employment drug test.
