Duties may include pre-design site survey, designing control system shop drawing submittals, programming controller sequence of operations, executing control system startup & commissioning, integration of 3rd party systems, and creating user interface graphics.


EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS DESIRED

  • 3+ years of related work experience in building automation systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science or related field, a vocational school for four year program certificate, or an Associate's Degree in Electronics, Mechanical Systems, Computer Technology, HVAC/R or a similar field
  • N4 or Schneider Electric certification is highly desirable
  • Valid California Drivers License

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Expert knowledge of MS Office, Windows, File Structure. Basic TCP/IP network structure and web navigation are desired.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems
  • Unitary Systems to Central Plants
  • Demonstrated experience in the integration of low voltage building subsystems using various industry protocols (i.e. LON, BacNet, N2, Modbus, etc.)
  • Knowledge in any of the following manufacturers is required: Honeywell WEBs, JCI Facility Explorer, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure and Niagara4, Delta Controls, and Distech
  • Extensive knowledge of blueprints, specifications, sketches, and building plans is desired
  • Proficiency in CAD and Visio
  • General understanding of IP networks Strong knowledge of control theory, HVAC controls, DDC systems, electrical controls, programming of DDC systems, network integration, commissioning of DDC systems, and control system design / implementation is desired

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
-
Create control algorithms, download source code to controllers, manage system databases, and implement an animated front-end graphical user interface

  • Designs and configures complex software building control systems as defined by the contract documents.
  • Configures and programs HVAC building automation and control systems (DDC) and creates controller sequence of operations
  • Develops and tests complex software programs necessary to operate the system per project requirements and specifications.
  • Assists in the implementation of energy conservation measures by utilizing and/or modifying the existing building automationsystem features (such as mathematical computation and environmental controls)

2. Executes project start-ups, commissioning, testing and troubleshooting of installed BAS controls and mechanical systems on assigned projects.- Loads and commissions all system and network-level controllers as required. Assists in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.

  • Leads the commissioning and troubleshooting of local and wide area networks
  • Leads others in the utilization of computer hardware and software to support prefunctional testing of the system software code in relationship to the design sequence of operations
  • Performs and validates the execution of the initial systems pointtopoint commissioning activities
  • Runs semicomplex reports to analyze system operation, works with project team to demonstrate system operation and verify consistency with the contracted scope of work
  • Participates in final inspection and testing, assures customer acceptance, and assists in training of end user customers on system operations

3. Uses experience in multiple systems integration to get different protocols to talk to each other and share information- Participates in the layout and coordination of network drops, IP addresses and monitoring tools with Customer's IT department personnel.

  • Works with equipment vendors to coordinate communication protocols, encryption, and database requirements for integration of their systems.

4. Takes a leadership role within the Building Intelligence department- Provides mentorship on complex building automation systems. Coaches, supports and trains mechanical workforce on non-complex, non-critical equipment.

  • Conducts extensive selfstudy (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines. Completes certifications as required by the company.

5. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication, coordination, and working relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers, and other employees.- Manages assigned work to meet professional and efficient execution of time and customer satisfaction. Reports problems or changes to management immediately. Interfaces with project executive, project manager, Senior technicians, and subcontractors on projects to coordinate activities as required in an ethical and professional manner.

  • Provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings. May assist with job layouts and bid proposals.
