SUMMARY:


Working under the direction of the Day Camp Coordinator(s) and the Recreation Supervisor, Day Camp Supervisors are responsible for the organization, planning and supervision of an assigned camp and all the activities associated with that camp.

The Day Camp Supervisor serves as the primary role model for camp counselors while facilitating the development of a team among staff members.


ESSENTIAL DUTUES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises a camp alone or as part of a team as assigned.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs the daily activities of the assigned camp, interacting with campers and staff while ensuring safety and security of the overall camp.
  • Ensures daily administration tasks are completed, such as attendance and participant signin/out procedures, supply request forms, camper data forms, and field trip permission slips.
  • Supports camp counselors in the implementation of behavior management procedures.
  • Assists with summer camp training.
  • Assist with preparing the camp environment and setting up needed materials and supplies.
  • Maintains a clean and organized camp environment (i.e., making sure everything is put away, no garbage anywhere, etc.)
  • Communicates with parents of campers regarding updates, feedback, discipline, etc.
  • Serves as an inclusive and encouraging role model for participants and staff.
  • Must be able to work with children of all abilities and coordinate with MNASR staff.
  • Maintains inventory and organization of camp supplies.
  • Demonstrate a professional attitude when dealing with the public.
  • Answer questions and handle complaints in a positive manner.
  • Recommend improvements to the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Complies with all Village Policies, Protocols, and Procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position requires management responsibilities of a supervisory nature. Incumbents must be proficient in basic concepts relating to personnel management.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
This position requires a completed or in-progress bachelor's degree and one to two years of related experience. CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications required prior to the start of camp.


COMPUTER SKILLS

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to compose and prepare reports and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.


REASONING ABILITIES


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to work with children.
  • Ability to prioritize duties and complete tasks within allotted planning hours.
  • Understanding of the principles, practices, and objectives of Parks and Recreation administration and recreation programming.
  • Ability to deal with the public tactfully and courteously.
  • Commitment to promoting the positive image and growth of the Day Camp program.
