Tasks

As a care assistant, you help people with tasks such as personal hygiene, serving meals, and regularly repositioning them to prevent bedsores. Your job duties can vary greatly depending on your focus and interests. For patients in a hospital, you may assist with washing and monitoring their health status.

In home care, you primarily provide basic care and maintain a clean environment. This may include tidying up, washing dishes, or running small errands for your patients. In a nursing home, you also participate in the recreational activities of the people under your care.

Care assistants are the "good soul" for the sick, elderly, and people with disabilities - as well as the nursing team. You typically assist doctors and nursing professionals, but also work independently and take responsibility for your own tasks. Whether it's helping with washing, dressing, or eating and drinking, your main focus is on meeting your patients' basic needs.

It is also important for successful care that you are empathetic towards your patients, recognize their wishes and needs, and fulfill them with sensitivity.

Requirements

You need a secondary school diploma or equivalent education.
