Job Description
SCOPE OF POSITION
The Children's Resource Center, a community service department of Niswonger Children's Hospital, is devoted to improving efforts related to wellness, literacy and safety, which are key components that enable children to grow into healthy, productive adults.
The Health Promotion Coordinator for the Children's Resource Center (CRC) is responsible for the development, coordination, and management of the health promotion programs in the coordinator's respective territory.
Responsibilities include health data management and analysis processes to identify health and safety trends and issues in the region, as well as organization, planning, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion activities provided by the Center within the community.
The Health Promotion Coordinator works in conjunction with hospital staff and community organizations to identify health trends and risk factors that are representative of the larger regional community and uses this data to develop educational tools for patients, families, staff, and the community about healthy lifestyle choices that promote optimal child growth and development, as well as risky behaviors that can compromise health.
The health promotion coordination throughout the Niswonger Children's Hospital service area will raise the visibility of the pediatric services at Niswonger Children's Hospital, facilitate grant and philanthropic support, and most importantly improve health outcomes for children.
This position reflects the most recent health promotion, education and outreach efforts expected of Niswonger Children's Hospital, the natural leader for child and family health in the region.
Principle Responsibilities:
Evaluates evidence-based health programs and collaboratively develops program models to promote wellness, literacy and injury prevention.
Develops, coordinates, and participates in internal and external health promotion programs, workshops and health fairs.
Assists Center leadership with creation of necessary tools to evaluate impact of health promotion activities within the hospital and the community.
In conjunction with the Center team, assists in providing training and resources to healthcare providers in the service area; receive referrals of high-risk, interested families from providers and assist referred families in accessing resources, support groups, health events, and other opportunities for supporting healthy children and families.
Collaborates with existing national, regional, state and local health councils/ programs/coalitions/efforts to improve child and family health.Consults with the Director of the Children's Resource Center to develop and maintain the health promotion program budget.
Assists with the organization and implementation of patient intervention/education programs and collateral pertaining to health promotion to patient families and community members to improve overall child health and reduce hospital utilization.
Additional responsibilities include helping to coordinate group meetings, events and health promotion forums.Stays abreast of the latest developments in child health, advancements and trends in health promotion by attending seminars or workshops, reading professional journals and/or actively participating in professional organizations and integrates this knowledge as appropriate into the job.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree required. Experience in health-related field (i.e. health education, medical social work, or public health) preferred; education or social work background will be considered. Minimum of 3 years' experience in child health, injury prevention, education or pediatric social work. Experience in program development and evaluation required. Experiences including teaching, public speaking and marketing preferred. Must be capable of effectively handling multiple priorities. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be a team player.
