Description
The Workers' Compensation Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of team member injury claims to ensure that injured team members receive the benefits that they deserve, while minimizing corporate claim costs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assess all new claims and immediately engage in those that are serious, questionable, or lost-time.
Act as Injury Counselors and maintain regular contact with injured team members.
Manage the work of the claim administrator to ensure compliance with special claim handling requirements as well as industry standards.
Manage claim administrator s utilization of surveillance and nurse case management assignments.
Coordinate with doctors, claim administrator, field management, etc. on managing the application of the transitional modified duty program.
Act as liaison between team member, claim administrator and company to ensure all eligible benefits provided to injured team members.
Ensure that corporate workers compensation reserves are adequate/appropriate by monitoring individual case reserves. Review reserve and settlement requests submitted by claim administrator for accuracy and reasonableness.
Oversee day-to-day activities of the Team Member Injury CSR(s) while providing ongoing training and development opportunities.
Identify general safety concerns as well as policy/safety violations and convey to internal management as well as claim administrator.
Responsible for management of the data in the Claims Management System (RiskConnect) and ensuring information is current.
Assimilate OSHA 300 log data in claim management system for preparation of logs to be distributed to stores and DCs.
Maintain diary system for regular review of claim files.
Provide direction and training to Distribution Center Human Resources Business Partners in the management of the DC team member injury claims.
Attend and actively participate in claim reviews with claim administrator.
Maintain a thorough understanding of individual state workers compensation laws.
Provide ongoing communication with field management of material claim developments.
SKILLS/EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/ABILITIES
High school diploma or equivalent.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Two years of experience in Human Resources and/or managing and coordinating workers compensation claims
Understanding of claim management processes and procedures
Advanced computer experience; proficient in word processing and databases
Post-secondary education/degree, with emphasis in business, medical, legal, etc. or significant comparable experience.
Thorough understanding of medical terminology, state workers compensation laws, subrogation, tort law, and litigation management principles.
Formal workers compensation and/or human resources related training (i.e. AIC, CWCP, PHR, etc.)
