WHO YOU CAN BECOME:

The Unaccompanied Children (UC) Youth Development Specialist (YDS) is either a full-time (mínimal 40 hours a week) or a part-time (mínimal 20 hours a week), non-exempt, and hourly position who works directly with children in care of LSS and sees that the daily program and routine is carried out.

They are responsible for providing a safe, therapeutic residential experience for all children during each assigned shift. A YDS consistently implements strategies which provide for the effective supervision of each child. They act as a member of the team by coordinating daily tasks with colleagues. A YDS develops a working knowledge of each youth and works to support children while in LSS care. _
This position requires an extensive background investigation._


WHAT YOU'LL DO:


  • Applies as necessary skills learned in trainings mentioned below.
  • Acquire and possess the New York Defensive Driving certification.
  • Maintain an awareness of each youth's frame of mind and ability to appropriately engage in program activities.
  • Appropriately uses and maintains the viability of all security devices and jobrelated equipment.
  • Adheres to LSS, Office of Children and Family Services, and Office of Refugee Resettlement policies and procedures to ensure the safety, discretion, and confidentiality of all UC's health and immigration information.
  • Collaborates with clinicians, case managers, and Medical Coordinator to follow provision of children care as indicated by treatment plans.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) and provides the support and guidance necessary for each child to feel safe and welcome.
  • Show sensitivity and support of the children's cultural and ethnic heritage and values.
  • Exhibit awareness of the daily census and maintain vigilance regarding any child's whereabouts on site.
  • Responsible for active supervision which maintains the safety and wellbeing of all children.
  • Complete all required documents in a professional manner, including timesheets, daily log, communication log, incident reports, phone logs, and any other reports and forms as expected.
  • Review information provided regarding the issues with each youth, any safety plans, and important developments with children.
  • Assists to provide a positive, clean, safe, and therapeutic environment.

WHAT YOU NEED:


  • High School diploma or GED.
  • New York State driver's license in good standing as determined by the Agency.
  • Must be vaccinated against Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (TDaP).

  • Ability to effectively supervise children as a group and maintain a therapeutic atmosphere during all program activities in all settings.
  • Strong communication skills (orally, electronically and written) to support the need for quality documentation and the effective exchange of information among colleagues and residents.
  • Possesses an overall mature demeanor, professional attitude, and the ability to effectively engage children and colleagues.
