Summary:

The YWCA Camp Full-Time Substitute/Floater assists the Camp Director, Unit Coordinator(s), and/or Counselor(s) with the implementation of the camp program with the goal to provide a safe, fun and engaging camp for all program participants.

This is on the basis that they help with coverage at various camp sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties as may be assigned.


  • This position's key component is that they are a "floater" who is stationed at each site depending on the day of them week. The purpose is to help with coverage at sites if a staff member is out or there is a need of an extra staff member.
  • Assist in the direction, supervision and organization of campers, within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
  • Assure campers are properly supervised at all times.
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers within the mission and outcomes.
  • Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities.
  • Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
  • Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
  • Assist in program areas such as swimming, athletics, learning activities, and arts and crafts as directed.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
  • Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs.
  • Be alert to campers and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems, and discuss with camp director when appropriate.
  • Be prepared to act in the case of an emergency, participate in all emergency drills as if they were actual emergencies.
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to camp director.
  • Be alert to strangers at camp, approach any unfamiliar person on camp and politely introduce yourself, asking them who they are and help them find the camp director.
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule and sportsmanship.
  • Create an inclusive atmosphere where campers, staff and parents feel welcomed and a part of the group.
  • Serve as mentor to C.I.T.s

Other Job Duties:

  • Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested.
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise allcamp activities and camp functions.
  • Notify camp director of any needed referrals for crisis intervention situations observed in campers, which includes serving as a mandated reporter for incidents of suspected abuse
  • Attend trainings as required to develop or maintain proficiency in job duties. CPR, First Aid, Mandated Reporting, and orientation trainings are offered.

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School Diploma required, pursuing a college degree in Education or Human Services, preferred
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attend mandatory camp training (such as CPR, mandated reporting, orientation training, etc)
  • Interest and experience working with children ages 61
  • Must be patient and encouraging
  • Able to work Monday through Friday/Thursday from 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. for a full sixweek session (depends on location of the camp you're subbing at)

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

This position will occasionally require the employee to work outdoors, and sometimes in hot weather. The work environment usually has moderate noise, and occasionally has loud noise.

Locations of camps:
Levittown, Bensalem, and Southampton - all in Bucks County


Pay:
$21.00 per hour


Expected hours:
No more than 30 per week

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
