Being the
Area Manager Assurance and Professionalism
The postholder will be a strategic leader in the service responsible for a number of key teams with a variety of functions including the professional and efficient management and co-ordination of the service's Professional Standards and Assurance, Fire Control, Health and Safety and Resilience Teams.
In addition, they will oversee the Kent Resilience Team hosted by Kent Fire and Rescue.You will provide visible leadership and support to the Assurance and Professionalism Team managers. Working with colleagues to embed an inclusive and positive performance driven culture.
What you'll do
Lead the functions of Professional Standards Team and working closely with the HR team and Operational Learning to ensure investigations and debriefs are supported with resources to investigate poor behaviour, accidents and incidents with speed and quality.
Oversee the Service's compliance with fire standards and develop and implement standards of operational and customer response that maintains the level of professionalism expected.
Take part in effective cross departmental working, particularly with service delivery and technical training and professionalism to achieve high quality and consistent services to our customers.
And establish and maintain systems and processes to provide assurance that this remains in place.Responsible for the overall management of the Fire and Rescue Control Centre and colleagues in the team.
Responsible for the management of the Emergency Planning and Contingencies requirement of the Service through the KFRS Resilience Team and Kent Resilience Team.
Responsible for the direction and effective delivery of the Health and Safety Team and function.Form part of the Service's Duty Area Manager rota providing Advanced and Strategic Incident Command (Level 4) reporting to the Duty Strategic Commander and providing guidance to the Duty Group Manager.
What you'll bringExperience as a substantive Area Manager, or as a Group Manager who is ready for promotion.
You will be qualified as a current Strategic/Level 4 Commander, or be required to pass an incident command assessment prior to employment.
Experience of providing leadership and support to managers at a senior level.The ability to work independently and under your own initiative.
You will promote and uphold the KFRS values and professional standards and will communicate the importance of ethical and inclusive approaches to our work.
Experience of creating, developing and supporting teams across a range of functions at a strategic level.Excellent communication skills and play a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating all aspects of your areas of responsibility.
You will be responsible for implementing strategic initiatives and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
You will collaborate closely with other services and public sector organisations in Kent and Medway to enhance preparedness and response capabilities.
You should be able to provide cover for the Strategic Command rota.If you would need to relocate and wish to discuss how we may be able to support you with this please ahead of the closing date.
This role is subject to security and police vetting checks which will be undertaken before an offer of employment can be confirmed.

Attending an assessment for Advanced/Level 4 Incident Command, if a current (recognised) qualification is not already held. This is expected to take place week commencing 13 May 2024 .
Preparing a presentation on a key organisational challenge that you will be invited to discuss at interview. The topic title will be provided upon shortlisting and will be specific to this Area Manager role.
A psychometric assessment that measures workplace-related personality traits.
Interviews will take place at our Service Headquarters in Maidstone on
21, 22 and 24 May 2024 .
