    OBT's TechSTART Program prepares young adults for careers in the cloud computing and IT fields. The Counselor/MSW will provide individualized social emotional and case management services in order to support participants as they train for and transition into the workforce. The Counselor/MSW is responsible for five general areas including: Social Support, Career Counseling, Program Recruitment and Intake, Alumni Support and Retention, and Data Tracking and Reporting.

    Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Conduct comprehensive intake assessments with program applicants to ensure both eligibility and overall appropriateness for our program using program rubric.
    • Assess program participants for potential barriers to successful outcomes for job attainment and retention by working with community partners to connect participants to social services and mental health resources.
    • Act as client's advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
    • Guide clients in the development of skills and strategies for navigating personal challenges in order to mitigate their effect on program performance and job retention.
    • In collaboration with other OBT Counselors, identify and cultivate an active network of support services and other programs for client referrals, as well as soliciting referrals from these organizations back to OBT's programs.
    • Maintain contact with current and past participants via approved social networking sites such as Google Voice and Slack, using established OBT protocols.
    • Provide social emotional support and case management services to ensure participants' success in program and beyond, including 1:1 counseling sessions, facilitating workshops, co-facilitating Morning Meeting, developing individual support plans, making referrals for additional support services, and sharing ongoing feedback on participants' progress with Program Team.
    • Conduct group counseling sessions using a prescribed curriculum that addresses such topics as: time management, managing stress, building self-esteem, effective listening, goal setting, teamwork, growth mindset, and general life skills.
    • Provide intervention and corrective action recommendations based upon program guidelines as well as behaviors and mindsets necessary for professional success.
    • Maintain participant case files and accurately record case notes on a regular basis; enter data into PTS and Salesforce in a timely fashion.
    • Provide ongoing feedback on participants' progress to Program Team and lead regular team case conferences.
    • In collaboration with the Transition Specialist and Job Developer, develop individual strategies for participant services and outcome attainment.
    • Assist Transition Specialist with obtaining placement verification, as necessary
    • Assist with any relevant reporting required by contracts.
    • Perform all other appropriate duties assigned by supervisor.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Build strong collaborative relationships with young adults from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
    • Ability to meaningfully assess, engage, and advise participants throughout the training program and as they transition into the workforce.
    • Ability to provide comprehensive case management services as needed.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to collect and analyze participant data.
    • Should be self-reflective and open to feedback.
    • Must be positive, have a solutions-oriented attitude.
    • Goal-oriented and be able to prioritize and achieve outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with participants, colleagues, supervisors, community partners, employer/internship partners, and funders.
    • Ability to complete tasks and projects in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Knowledge of workforce development is helpful.
    • Personal initiative and ability to problem solve.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
    • Bilingual Spanish/English helpful.

    Education and Experience/Training:

    • Master's degree in social work/mental health counseling (matriculation in an accredited social work/mental health counseling graduate program may be considered).
    • Experience working with disconnected youth.

    Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000

    Paid Time Off - PTO:

    OBT offers a comprehensive Paid Time Off policy, including:

    • 105 hours annually of paid time off (accrued monthly) with unlimited rollover.
    • 84 hours of sick and safe leave (accrued monthly)
    • 10 paid agency holidays plus 2 flex holidays of your choosing
    • 5 days paid for agency closure the last week of the year.
    • Summer Fridays (closing at noon) July 1 – Memorial Day
