Our doctors are board-certified, skilled ophthalmologists and optometrists that provide a range of services to help our patients attain the clearest vision possible. Our services cover a range of eye problems, including cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disorders, dry eye, and ocular injuries. We have the common goal of ascertaining the most appropriate care for any given patient, explaining the purpose of the treatment, and in initiating said therapy in a courteous and compassionate manner, irrespective of age, gender, nationality, and race or payment program.


The
Ophthalmic Technician I will perform a range of duties which include preparing the patient to see Ophthalmologist and/or Optometrist and conduct preliminary exam and captures medical history.

In addition, the preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning, and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures may be required.

Travel to other locations may also be necessary to support clinical needs.


Responsibilities:


  • Make introductions and establish rapport with patients
  • Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.
  • Perform preexam testing to include visual acuity assessment, including pinhole and glare testing, confrontational visual field testing, assess extra ocular muscles, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, assess angles, pupillary dilation, and all other patient services as requested by the physician including specialty tests such as color vision screening, stereopsis, and dry eye testing
  • Perform lensometry and specialized testing such as visual fields, keratometry, A/B scans, and ophthalmic photography optical coherence tomography (OCT), and optical biometry
  • Additional testing as requested by doctor
  • Perform retinoscopy and refractometry. Assist with minor surgical procedures or laser treatments in the office
  • Assist with fitting contact lenses and instruct patients in care and insertion of lenses
  • Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chart
  • Educate patients regarding administration of medications and pre
- and post-operative instructions as directed by physician

  • Check temperature of medical refrigerator daily
  • Maintain and conduct inventory of medications and supplies
  • Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment
  • Clean surgical instruments in preparation for sterile processing
  • Inspect instruments periodically for damage, send for repair, and request a replacement, as necessary
  • Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring that equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner and as per office procedures, battery powered instruments are seated properly in recharge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under covers
  • Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines
  • Prioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with doctors and clinical colleagues
  • Executes duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
  • Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers, and doctors
  • Basic computer literacy required
  • Highly energetic with a positive attitude
  • Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet the demands of business
  • Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours
  • Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred
  • Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
  • One to two years' experience in multispecialty clinic preferred
