Description

Opportunity for Impact

For over a century, The Jewish Education Project, (formerly BJE) has played a vital role in shaping and advancing Jewish education in New York and across the country.

Its role evolved as the times have, but the overarching mission remains the same.

Over the past seven years, and taking effect this past January 2024, New York State has developed a mandate that all nonpublic schools, including Jewish day schools and yeshivot, demonstrate that students are taught a general studies curriculum that is substantially equivalent to the general studies taught in the public schools.

Demonstration of substantial equivalency will allow schools to continue to access government funds and services vital to their operations.

The Jewish Education Project's Day School and Yeshiva Team has worked tirelessly, and in close partnership with NYSED and other Jewish organizations, to advocate for the freedoms and independence of religious schools, while simultaneously assisting schools to improve their academic performance.

Moving into the next phase of supporting NYC Jewish schools and continuing its traditional role of advancement of best practices in Jewish education, The Jewish Education Project is facilitating a groundbreaking effort.

A significant pilot investment will allow The Jewish Education Project to develop curricular resources that are culturally sensitive and meets NYS standards.

These resources will then be available to schools
