The Dane County Department of Waste and Renewables is currently hiring for a full time (1.0 FTE) Sustainability Engagement Coordinator.


The eligibility list created from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that occur within the next six months.

DEFINITION


Dane County owns and operates the County's landfills, household hazardous waste collection site, a construction and demolition recycling facility, various other recycling programs, and a Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) production and offload facility.

The Department's goals include increased waste minimization, diversion, recycling, and beneficial use and the intent is to achieve this with development of a sustainable business park, or Sustainability Campus.

The Campus will have additional opportunities for recycling and community engagement.

This classification is responsible for strategic planning of Campus initiatives, identifying and attracting Campus tenants and partners, construction project management and oversight, contract management and business development, development of recycling and waste diversion projects, leading community engagement and behavior change programs, and building and maintaining partnerships with local community leaders and groups to move towards a circular economy in Dane County.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Develops and implements a strategic plan and outreach efforts for the Sustainability Campus.

Collaborates with internal and external partners including:

local governments, county departments, committees, commissions, state and federal agencies, nonprofits, and other organizations to increase waste diversion and recycling.

Actively recruits campus tenants, partners, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors to implement waste diversion projects. Develops and issues requests for bids/proposals and issues contracts. Oversees execution of contracts and performs project management including construction project management.

Establishes goals and metrics for the projects to effectively communicate project status to community members and Department and County leadership.

Oversees scheduling and staffing of outreach and education events, including the Trash Lab, site tours, workshops and other special events.

Increases the diversity of audiences reached and creates an inclusive environment. Promotes department programs, events and initiatives. Serves as lead worker to establish messaging and content on web and social media. Plans, writes, produces and maintains informational and promotional materials. This classification will also be assigned a broad spectrum of responsibilities including, but not limited to, financial management, contract administration, and internal and external team leadership for a variety of Department projects


Education, Experience & Special Requirements:


Education, Training and Experience:


Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in the areas of environmental, sustainability, or organizational leadership; project management; volunteer management; community development; building capacity of organizations; program evaluation; engaging diverse communities; or another related field or industry.


Special Requirements:

Must have a valid driver's license, and access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. A safe driving record is required. Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed and for weekend events and meetings.
