As part of the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, you'll give direct inpatient nursing care as per the California Nurse Practice Act, and in support of the mission of the Patient Care Services Division.

Being a Hoag Clinical Nurse I means serving our community by using research and evidence-based outcomes, and collaborating with members of your team to offer the highest level of care to those who depend on us.

Inside Hoag's CCU

Our CCU features 12 beds and has a nurse to patient ratio of 1:1 or 1:2.

Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the delivery of safe, timely, and appropriate quality care to patients ranging from adult to geriatric, with acute cardiac medical and/or cardiac surgical diagnoses, and other medical/surgical diagnoses.


You may be required to use a range of interventions such as: endotracheal intubation, ventilatory support, invasive pressure monitoring, tracheostomies, thrombolytic therapy, cardioversions, hemofiltration, peritoneal dialysis, atrial and ventricular overdrive pacing, intra-aortic balloon pumping, insertion of pulmonary artery and transvenous pacing catheters, chest tubes, pericardial catheters, arterial lines, bronchoscopy and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).


Other duties may include:

  • Providing care for patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring and vasopressor therapy, experiencing respiratory distress, and receiving sedation and neuromuscular blocking medications.
  • Demonstrating skill in the use of specialized equipment and devices pertinent to treatment, procedures and practices.
  • Caring for patients with induced Hypothermia and pacemakers, undergoing bypass procedures, experiencing chest pain, and those with central venous catheters, including multilumen, dialyses, PICC, etc.
  • Preparing and assisting with invasive procedures.
  • Identifying, assessing, and intervening for patients experiencing complex cardiac dysrhythmias.

Required

  • Active California RN License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year Critical Care experience in an acute care facility.
  • Successful completion of a Critical Care course.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). If you haven't obtained a BSN upon hire, you will be asked to begin a BSN program within one year of the hire date and obtain your BSN within two years of starting the program.
Preferred

  • BSN.
  • Previous experience in postoperative critical care of adult cardiac surgical patients, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies (CRRT).
