    **POSITION: Guest Group Host**

    **SUPERVISOR: Guest Services Manager**

    **DEPARTMENT: Camp Redwood Glen**

    **STATUS: Non-Exempt/On Call**

    **THE SALVATION ARMY MISSION STATEMENT:**

    **OVERVIEW**

    The Guest Group Host is responsible for hosting the guests that come in during the week and/or weekend. Duties

    include checking groups in, ensuring all lodging is open and ready for guests, cleaning & disinfecting meeting room

    spaces & restrooms, hosting during meals, ensuring all details are well taken care of, and working closely with other

    camp staff to ensure our guests receive the highest level of hospitality.

    **DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:**

    **PRE-ARRIVAL CHECK LIST:**

    1. Ensure readiness of all camp facilities for incoming rental groups. Verify all work done on

    Maintenance Cleaning Check List.

    2. Meet with Food Services Manager to review menu and mealtimes-once verified with group leader at

    check in.

    3. Make sure radios are charged for both guest group leader and RWG team

    4. Make sure all water and power are on to buildings in use.

    5. Make sure heaters and thermostats are set in lodging areas

    6. Turn on porch lights and check all other lights in cabins (replace if needed).

    7. Check toilet paper and paper towel supply in all buildings being used.

    8. Make sure all trashcans and wastebaskets have a liner.

    9. Have coffee and beverage counter ready for the arrival of the group.

    10. Have maps, retreat information, welcome board, walkie talkies, and registration area ready one hour

    before expected arrival.

    11. Orient retreat staff to policies and emergency procedures and issue keys as requested.

    12. Instruct retreat staff on use of radios.

    **MEALTIMES:**

    1. Be in dining room before the start of meal to supervise table set-up. Check with Food Service Manager

    on what time to be in before each meal you are hosting.

    2. Remake coffee if necessary.

    3. Re-supply and clean beverage counter.

    4. Check with the retreat staff at each meal to see if they need any assistance with anything.

    5. At first meal or first meeting, instruct group on Dining Hall procedures (set up time with Guest Leader

    while checking group in). Orient whole group at first meeting to camp policies and emergency

    procedures.

    6. Assist in serving the meal as needed by the Food Services Manager.

    7. Check and clean public bathroom areas (Dining Hall, Gatehouse, Craft House, Lower CE, meeting

    spaces, and Chapel).

    8. Re-set meeting areas and check for cleanliness-take out trash or wipe down surfaces as needed

    9. After guests have left the Dining Hall, wipe down tables & chairs, sweep, and reset tables for next

    meal.

    **TROUBLE SHOOTING:**

    1. Always be available by radio and let the retreat staff know where you can be found if they need help.

    2. Check with the retreat staff periodically to see if they need any assistance with anything.

    3. Fix and repair problems in as timely a manner as possible.

    4. Let the retreat staff know when a problem has been repaired or what action is being taken to address

    the problem

    5. Monitor the groups schedule for any special request items.

    6. At 11:00 pm make rounds and turn lights off in areas not being used. If still in use remind the group of

    last one out policy and remind them of the Noise Ordinance as outlined in welcome one-sheet

    **CAMP TURNOVER:**

    1. Turn off lights, lock doors, and turn off any heaters/AC units in all lodging used by guest group.

    2. Turn off lights and heaters/AC in chapel and all other meeting rooms used by the group and lock up

    the building.

    3. Check in with Food Service Manager for direction on Dining Hall turnover.

    4. Empty all trash from all areas of camp and ensure all trash cans have lids securely on them and all

    trash is dumped in the dumpster.

    5. Prepare billing information: final numbers, extra spaces used, snacks, etc. and turn in information into

    6. Document problems or repairs that came up during the retreat and submit to Facilities Manager.

    **MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES:**

    1. Light and extinguish fire for groups

    2. Ensure snack, coffee/tea service are set up in meeting rooms prior to groups arrival

    3. Locate sports equipment and know how-to pump-up balls for group usage.

    4. Assist the Guest Services Manager in any other duties as requested in order to maintain a consistently

    high level of efficiency in the operation of the camp.

    Be flexible and accommodating. Our ministry and reputation are based on providing consistent quality service. Do

    whatever you can, within reason, to make sure the week/weekend is a success for the group.

    **QUALIFICATIONS:**

    1. Must possess and demonstrate an ability to work with people, including community groups, participants, campers,

    and staff in an affable, concerned, and caring manner.

    2. Must display the ability to and be accountable for the efficient scheduling of time and resources made

    available to perform tasks at hand.

    3. Strong oral and written communication skills.

    4. Able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.

    5. Self-motivated and have ability to motivate others.

    6. At least 1 year experience in guest hosting preferred

    7. Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

    8. Detail oriented, accurate and precise.

    9. Capable of handling and controlling multiple projects.

    10. Demonstrate leadership skills with strong team player attitude.

    11. Capable of maintaining high level of integrity.

    12. Maintain confidentiality.

    13. Energetic, personable, and dependable.

    14. Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

    15. Must possess a valid driver license.

    16. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards relating to assigned

    vehicles.

    17. Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Publisher).

    **EQUIPMENT USED**

    PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, Printer and various housekeeping equipment such as vacuums.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous

    basis

    2. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead

    3. Ability to operate telephone

    4. Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer

    5. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

    6. Ability to understand written information
