Union Tank Car Company
Union Tank Car Company is seeking new employees at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Altoona, Pennsylvania to assist in various departments as needed by plant production.
The Company's regulatory, engineering and commercial expertise make UTLX the preferred source of railcars and services for many of its customers.
Owned by the Marmon Group and Berkshire Hathaway, UTLX headquarters is in Chicago's financial district, close to major public transportation hubs.
We are looking for a Quality Control Inspector to perform railcar final inspections, this ensures the required work is completed in compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
The QC Inspector will also support the production team with other quality initiatives as needed.
Performs visual, dimensional, and mechanical inspection of railcars and components throughout all stages of the railcar maintenance, qualification, and inspection processes to assess the as found condition or quality of work performed.
Maintains an up-to-date inspection record of all inspections performed on each railcar shopped and ensures all documentation is complete prior to approval.
Reviews shop floor documentation and final car file to ensure completeness and compliance.Works with production to identify and plan for the day's shipments to ensure verifications/inspections are made in a timely manner.
Verifies cars are properly secured, closed, marked and identified prior to being released for interchange.Reports adverse and/or non-compliant items to the responsible supervisor and QA Manager and follows-up to confirm that remedies have been put in place on items before the car is released to subsequent processes/stages.
Participates in and actively supports quality projects, activities and Responsible Care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.
Minimum of 3-5 years related work experience railcar repair or manufacturing preferred.Detailed knowledge of inspection procedures, tank car construction and FRA
Knowledge and familiarity with NDT processes is preferred.
Additional training in inspection processes will be required.
In addition, this position requires a working knowledge of computers, including familiarity with the AS400, and Outlook, various customer systems and Microsoft Office software packages.
Possess reading and comprehension skills associated with Fleet Repair Standards, Governing Regulations, drawings, and catalogs.General mechanical aptitude and ability to use railroad gauges, testing techniques, & test equipment necessary for rail car inspections.
Have vision correctable to 20/20 for inspection activities.
Scheduled on an off shift.
Average care required avoiding injury while handling or positioning material.
Climb ladders to heights of approximately 14 feet, bend, crawl, stoop, squat, kneel, and stretch to perform tank car inspections.
Enter tank cars via a manway opening approximately 20 inches in diameter.Be willing and able to wear safety equipment such as safety shoes, hard hats, air fed respirators, body harnesses, and safety glasses.
