    Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Officer will be part of the team raising funds for the College of Humanities, with a focus on supporting Department of Communication priorities.

    As a top department in the field of communication and one of the largest majors on campus, the Development Officer will work in collaboration with the Chair of Communication to lead, coordinate, plan and implement fundraising activities to secure financial support from individuals, corporations, and foundations, and to advance philanthropic partnerships for the Department of Communication and College of Humanities.

    The desired candidate will have experience working with donors, funders and alumni, cultivating donor relationships, prospect research, portfolio management, case statement and proposal writing, soliciting leadership and major gifts, and donor stewardship.

    ResponsibilitiesMaintain a portfolio of leadership and major gift donors, including researching prospects, conducting discovery and qualification visits, and make direct solicitations to alumni, friends, foundations, and corporations through face-to-face interactions and proposals.

    Work with the Development Director to develop and implement a comprehensive plan to increase the donor base and philanthropic revenue over time, including setting and meeting short- and long-term fundraising goals.

    Works alongside finance team and department leadership to ensure donor funds are accurately reported on and stewarded appropriately.
    Adhere to the Universitys prospect management standards, tracking donor relationships and filing contact reports.
    Assists with design and implementation of new ideas and programs. Evaluates effectiveness and makes recommendations for change.

    Model the One-U mission, collaborating closely with campus and college partners, and building a culture of trust with the various departments, centers, and colleges this team supports.

    Support the efforts of the entire College of Humanities Development Team campaigns and special projects including annual giving and special events.

    Work closely with the dean, chairs, directors, faculty, and staff to understand priorities, projects, and goals and develop cohesive case statements to support the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity in all interactions with donors, colleagues, and external partners, serving as an exemplary ambassador for the Department of Communication and College of Humanities.

    May visit locally or travel to see actual or potential donors independently and represent the area at community meetings or events.

    May oversee membership program, including establishing levels and benefits, recruitment, renewal, and benefits fulfillmentMinimum QualificationsBachelors degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); three years of fund-raising experience which includes direct solicitation of contributions, volunteer leadership support, written and verbal presentations, and strategy and market development are required.

    Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience in grant or proposal writing and a background working with local print and electronic media is preferred. Demonstrated negotiating skills are also preferred.
