What We Offer

JOB SUMMARY:


  • The respiratory care practitioner (RCP) provides, under medical direction, respiratory care services to patients with disorders of the cardiopulmonary system. According with physician prescription, the RCP provides diagnostic testing, therapeutic, and respiratory monitoring services.

EDUCATION:


  • Graduate of a respiratory therapy program approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA) so as to qualify for examination and licensure by the California State Respiratory Care Examining Committee as a Respiratory Care Practitioner

EXPERIENCE:


  • One two years recent experience in respiratory patient care and respiratory care technology in an accredited acute care facility preferred

PREREQUISITE SKILLS:


  • Airway maintenance skilled in the techniques of airway clearance in intubated and nonintubated patients.
  • Emergency Airway Management skilled in providing and maintaining an adequate patent airway in emergency situations.
  • Medication Preparation and Administration skilled in respiratory medications administered by aerosolization.

LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:


  • Current licensure by the California State Respiratory Care Examining Committee of the Medical Board, as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required from National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc. (NBRC), required once.
  • Current CPR certification at the BLS (Healthcare Provider) level with American Heart Association.
  • Current NRP certification preferred on hire or must obtain within six months of hire.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

A. ESSENTIAL (not modifiable)

  • 1. Maintains current BLS-Healthcare Provider certification, State Licensure and TB screening. 2. Under physician prescription, assembles/disassembles administration apparatus for medical gases, humidification, aerosol, medication, ventilatory support, bronchopulmonary drainage, chest physiotherapy, breathing exercise, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and airway management 3. Responds to cardiac and respiratory arrests, assisting in establishing emergency airway and maintaining ventilation. Assist in other phases of CPR, as directed. 4.
Performs specific testing to assist physician in diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and evaluation of cardiopulmonary pathology including but not limited to:
measurement of ventilatory volumes, airway pressures, gas flows, and other related physiologic parameters.- 5.

Provides clinical assessment and respiratory patient monitoring; evaluates patient's respiratory status and condition by interpreting arterial blood gases, auscultating the chest, measuring oximetry and capnography.

Confers with nurse, physician, and other health professions regarding of patient's respiratory therapy.- 6. Observes infection control policies.- 7. Performs various procedures to establish and maintain adequate airway care and suctioning.- 8.

Documents and maintains records of patient treatment and response to therapy in the patient's medical record, department billing and quality assurance.- 9.

Participates in verbal report regarding patient care during shift change.- 10. Reports malfunctioning of equipment, ensuring that all equipment is clean and in working condition. Performs appropriate decontamination and cleaning of equipment prior to sterilization. All discontinued equipment is to be processed by end of the working day.- 11. Participates in department in-service training, continuing education activities, and development; maintains current, active credential status.
B. SECONDARY (modifiable)

  • 1. Instructs patients and/or family in the operation and cleaning of various home
