GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


This position performs routine clerical support for the customer service department which will include taking inbound calls, working with the general public, giving route information, ticket sales, general clerical work, and data entry support.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


This dynamic individual will be responsible for:

  • Providing quality customer service while giving transit information to callers and passengers about bus routes and schedules.
  • There is a high level of financial accountability as the right individual will sell bus passes, vouchers, and be responsible for balancing cash drawers at the end of the day.
  • Knowledge of cash registers, good telephone etiquette and the ability to comprehend complex bus schedules and routes, and general computer knowledge is highly desirable.
  • The Transit Center customer service window is open Monday and Saturday 8am 4pm, and Tuesday-Friday 7am 5pm. This individual may be required to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), and one year of experience in an office assistant role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Previous safety or operations/logistics experience preferred.


KNOWLEDGE:


  • Customer service principles;
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment;

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions


Sedentary Work:

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

  • General office equipment
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Cash handling
  • A preemployment drug screen, background check, and professional/personal reference checks are required for all applicants. A physical examination, including range of motion, lift test, whisper test, eye test, MVR review, and credit check may be required depending on position. These tests must be successfully completed prior to starting employment._
