Job Description
Before starting any construction project, the Army National Guard needs a Horizontal Construction Engineer to clear the path. Operating heavy machinery like bulldozers and roadgraders, you'll prepare the site for building.
Your duties will involve tasks such as leveling terrain, excavating construction areas, and transporting equipment. You'll also play a role in combat engineer missions.
Job Duties
- Analyzing and placing grade stakes
- Spreading fill material with a scraper

- Equipment maintenance and repair
- Identifying soil types and grade stake placement
Valuable Skills
- Enjoying outdoor work
During training, you'll gain expertise in construction methods and engineering principles, particularly in heavy equipment operation. You could also earn certifications to kickstart a civilian construction career.

Instead of paying, get paid during your training. The Army National Guard offers a regular paycheck and tuition assistance as you develop these essential skills.
Training for Horizontal Construction Engineers includes nine weeks of Basic Training covering Soldiering skills, followed by nine weeks of Advanced Individual Training combining classroom and field experience.
