    Job Responsibilities

    With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

    This position is located at the Department of Mental Health Charleston Dorchester Center, 2100 Charlie Hall Blvd, Charleston SC 29414

    Responsibilities for this Position Title include but are not limited to:
    • Under close supervision of lead clinical shift administrator, answers incoming crisis calls and provides telephonic crisis intervention services, screening and consultation in a culturally competent manner.
    • Assesses, triages and provides telephonic crisis intervention/de-escalation to individuals in crisis. Identify concerns with mental illness, developmental disabilities and/or substance use and refer to the appropriate resource. Utilize assessment information and community resources to provide information and/or linkage and referral to services.
    • Patch call to appropriate clinical staff in a timely manner based on geographic location and patient needs. Completes appropriate documentation in accordance with stablished policies, procedures and QA guidelines of the agency.
    Minimum and Additional Requirements

    State Minimum Requirements:
    A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.

    Agency (Facility) Minimum Requirements:
    A bachelor's degree and demonstration of understanding of triage, referral, and assessment for mental health emergent and/or treatment needs.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Knowledge of psychological needs for psychologically impaired individuals in crisis.

    Knowledge of psychotherapeutic techniques and differential diagnoses. Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals.

    Ability to communicate effectively and provide professional and timely information to internal leadership and external stakeholders. Ability to train other employees. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public.

    Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures. Ability to multitask on multiple assignments.
    Additional Comments

    The position will be assigned to Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center; SCDMH Mobile Crisis Call Center. No travel required. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. and may be responsible for day and night shifts. This is an essential position in a 24-hour program.
