Nassau County - Public Health Specialist II (Epidemiology)


As Nassau County - Public Health Specialist II (Epidemiology), you are responsible for working with the Nassau County Health Department to provide specialized professional services related to public health and designated focus area.

This position will support Public Health Infrastructure activities in Nassau County, NY.

Position Specific Responsibilities


The Public Health Specialist II will be responsible for performing statistical tests on health data, assisting in data visualization process, and writing reports.

The position involves critical analysis of statistical research and study designs related to a variety of health outcomes.

Health outcomes include, but are not limited to, chronic disease, infectious disease such as COVID19, future pandemic preparedness planning, prenatal outcomes and injuries.

Health outcomes are addressed in the context of potential risk factors. This individual is specialized and could provide some supervisory functions if requested.


Work encompasses an understanding of current data in an effort to help generate hypotheses, provide expertise on study design development (10%), provide expertise on collecting epidemiologic data (20%), statistically analyze data using excel and other statistical programs at a superior level (40%), provide specialized evaluation skills to understand results and interpret conclusions (20%), contribute and lead interpretations of finding (10%).

Health outcomes specific to Nassau County residents are related to other regions and locales for context and comparison.


Furthermore, with results from data analysis and research, this job includes the development of programs that promote wellness and disease prevention within Nassau County.

Collaboration with other agencies is necessary to achieve programs that suit specific target populations.

This position is located on site at the Nassau County Health Department.


Qualifications:

This position is intended to execute complex tasks independently as well as coordinate the tasks of other team members.

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required. Experience in clinical medicine and/or public health a plus.
  • At least one year of experience within a health, public health, education, human services, or communitybased organization, or institutional setting.
  • Experience working in a health system in NYS. This includes but is not limited to hospitals, health care providers, health regulatory organizations, community resources, social services or schools in NYS.
  • A flexible, adaptive, and composed attitude with the ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment required.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Experience leading tracking and reporting processes.
  • Proficiency with computers including data entry into electronic tracking systems and running summary reports.
  • Phenomenal work ethic with a positive attitude.
  • Employment is contingent on completion of a background check by NY State.
  • Must be a NYS resident with familiarity of NYS geography; cities/towns/locations.
  • Preference given to those who live within commuting distance to the official work location.
  • Own telephone, computer, wireless internet (WiFi) and electronic equipment.
  • Must have access to a working PC with Windows 10,

Compensation for roles at Staffing Solutions Organization LLC (SSO) varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience.

As required by applicable law, SSO provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. In addition, SSO provides a range of benefits for this role.
