About Summer Leaders & Readers (SRL): Summer Leaders & Readers (SRL) is an intensive 5-week literacy program for rising 2nd-5th graders in Holyoke. Using a combination of intensive literacy instruction in the morning and fun engaging activities in the afternoon, SRL aims to reduce the summer slide by providing engaging and immersive learning experiences.


Key Responsibilities:


Program Development:


  • Design and develop a diverse range of engaging activities.
  • Create a balanced schedule that fosters both learning and fun, catering to various age groups and interests.
  • Ensure that all activities align with SRL's mission and values.

Staff Management:


  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise program staff members.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate expectations, provide training, and address any concerns or issues.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.

Safety and Supervision:


  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures governing program operations, including health and safety standards, child protection protocols, and data privacy regulations.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols and procedures to ensure the wellbeing of children, volunteers and staff.
  • Maintain a high level of supervision during all program activities, including offsite field trips.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to any emergencies or incidents that may arise.

Parent Communication:


  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents/guardians, providing regular updates and addressing any questions or concerns.
  • Organize parent orientation sessions prior to the start of program to familiarize families with camp policies and procedures.
  • Solicit feedback from parents and incorporate suggestions for improvement as needed.

Administration:


  • Manage program logistics, including registration, attendance tracking, and budget oversight.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to secure necessary resources and support.
  • Prepare reports and evaluations to assess the success of the program and identify areas for growth or improvement.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in education, recreation, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Previous experience working in a supervisory role at a summer camp or similar youth program.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and best practices in youth programming.
  • Current certification in first aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain certification).
  • Ability to pass a background check

Pay:
$ $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
