The following description of the job responsibilities and performance expectations are intended to reflect the primary responsibilities of the job, but are not intended to describe all duties other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.


  • Readies the area to receive patients.
  • Reviews daily surgery schedule and contacts patients indicated for PAT visits and schedules those visits to the hospital.
  • Coordinates PAT patient visits with anesthesia, when indicated.
  • During the patient's PAT visit to the hospital, performs patient assessments, responsibilities and provides preoperative instructions and explanation according to facility policy and procedure.
Provides preoperative instruction and explanation of patient rights and responsibilities.

  • Describes the perioperative experience to the patient and the participation of the significant other, including what to expect before, during and after the procedure.
  • Reviews and confirms medical history and procedure to be performed.
  • Provides all required preoperative instructions applicable to the procedure being performed.
  • Obtains the patient's signature on the Facility for Consent to Treatment form.
  • Reviews with the anesthesiologist health histories of any scheduled admissions that do not meet the Center's admission criteria.
  • Reviews physician preoperative orders prior to the day of admission. Monitors that orders or preoperative testing requests from either the admitting physician or the anesthesiologist have been received prior to the day of admission.
  • If patient not seen at hospital for PAT visit, contacts patients 34 days prior to surgery and performs
  • Respects patient's right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
  • Is knowledgeable about and responsive to emergency situations, i.e. cardiac arrest, drug reaction, fire, disaster etc.
  • Reports and completes appropriate forms for incidents related to patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and staff development programs, including mandatory ones.
  • Participates in CQI process and activities.
  • Assists with all other duties as the need arises or as assigned.
  • Sets priorities to facilitate the timely and efficient flow of patients throughout the day.
  • Prepares and restocks the PAT area for the following day.

Treatment Room:


  • Conduct the initial nursing assessment to patient's presenting to the hospital for patients seeking unscheduled medical care evaluation:
  • Initiates basic life support measures, if required.
  • Carries out protocols for written emergency services as defined by the organization.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the hospital's transfer protocols relating to:
  • Contacting EMS
  • Assisting the EMS unit in the transfer of patient to higher level of care, if required.
  • Completing the patient medical record documentation required for transfer.
  • Completing the required transfer forms.
  • Completing the Triage Log.

Required Skills:


Qualifications:

Licensure as Licensed Practical Nurse in the State Pennsylvania.

Current BLS certification
