    EDUCATION/TRAINING/


    EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's Degree with major course work in Physical Therapy or closely related field
    • Two years of work experience providing physical therapy services to school-aged children with special needs; Master's degree in Physical Therapy or advanced education in physical therapy is desirable

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:

    • Valid Class C California Driver's License.
    • Valid registration as a Physical Therapist with the State of California Board of Medical Quality Assurance

    REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION INCLUDE:

    • Knowledge of Special Education Codes and health and welfare regulations governing student safety and treatments.
    • Knowledge of typical cognitive, sensory, social, emotional and physical development in children.
    • Knowledge of disability assessment techniques.
    • Knowledge of educational and development needs of children with specific disabilities.
    • Knowledge of application of physical therapy techniques in working with children with disabilities; Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) and Sensory Integration (SI) theories and principles; principles of neurology, anatomy, neuro-anatomy, kinesiology, child development, and physiology.
    • Ability to use a variety of methods, techniques and practices in physical therapy.
    • Ability to make accurate assessments of the developmental status and educational needs of children.
    • Ability to develop written assessment reports of a professional quality.
    • Ability to respond to and work with families in a culturally sensitive way.
    • Ability to understand the unique differences and needs of students with disabilities and their families.
    • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, District personnel, community representatives, and interdisciplinary teams.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with IEP teams.
    • Ability to set up and maintain therapy tools and equipment.
