The Animal Care/ Health Associate provides treatment and care to all on-site animals. It is an important role for the health and well-being of the animals.

The Animal Care/ Health Associate is detail-oriented, highly motivated, and willing to develop new processes where they do not exist.


What You'll Do

  • Perform Daily/ Weekly wellness checks on animals and document issues as directed by supervisor and relay any health issues that need immediate attention or care to the supervisor or attending/ consulting veterinarian in accordance with Fortis SOPs and Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Perform Daily/ Weekly treatments or immunization on animals as advised by supervisor or attending/ consulting veterinarian and document any treatment or immunizations as directed by supervisor
  • Maintain all appropriate records relating to animal care as directed by Supervisor, perform animal care duties such as trimming hooves, treating abrasions, deworming, delice, etc.
  • Administer routine immunizations and treatments when needed as directed by attending/ consulting veterinarian.
  • Perform routine blood collection, serum processing and animal inventory duties.
  • Assist with handling all animals including rabbits, sheep, goats, and donkeys during serum collection process by moving rabbits, herding animals, opening gates, calling ear tattoos or tag numbers, processing blood bags and vials, etc.
  • Routinely clean animal facilities and surrounding areas including replacing soiled shavings within or around barns, power washing and sanitizing cages and surrounding areas, sweeping and power washing floors, replacing feeders, landscaping around facilities, etc.
  • Maintain cleanliness in all department areas including, break room, bathrooms, storage, etc.
  • Perform routine pest control and grounds maintenance when needed.
  • Perform routine or basic maintenance on all animal care facilities and equipment.
  • Provide backup support to other operations teams including assisting in minor construction, facilities, grounds, and pasture maintenance.
  • Operate farm and construction equipment including tractors, backhoe, forklift, lull, skidsteer, etc.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management, which may not be listed above, that are necessary to accomplish our goal of improving lives by supporting scientific discovery.

Who You Are & What You Bring

Education / Background

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience working in an animal health setting desirable

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge to know what animals need attention without direction from Supervisor
  • Skills to treat animals with the appropriate care needed to improve quality of life
  • Willingness to communicate openly with Supervisor and attending Veterinarian any issues or concerns that may arise
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Proficiency with common Microsoft tools such as MSWord, MSExcel and Outlook
