About the position:
The Bus Attendant makes sure that students remain safely seated while the bus is in motion, maintaining order on the bus, establishing good relationships with the children, the bus driver, the parents and other staff.
Please note immediate family members of Hebrew Public school families (sibling, parent, spouse/partner) are not eligible to apply.**
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists students in getting on and off the bus safely.
- Ensures students are received by authorized adults at each stop
- Ensures all students wear a seat belt at all times while on the bus.
- Supervises student behavior while on the bus, strictly enforcing behavioral expectations.
- Maintains a positive and calm attitude.
- Protects all students from physical or verbal abuse while on the bus.
- Learns bus route and makes the substitute driver aware of it when necessary.
- Communicates effectively with families and school staff.
- Reports directly to the Director of Operations.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED as a requirement
- Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT) Bus attendant certification required
- At least 21 years old
- Communicates Effectively
- Attentive to details
- Early morning availability
- Must obtain fingerprinting clearance
- Experience working with children
Preferred but not required:
- American Red Cross First Aid Training Certificate preferred
- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate preferred
- Training in verbal deescalation preferred
- Experience working with students with special needs as well as wheelchairs, lifts, ramps, and special needs adaptive equipment.
- Hebrew Public will cover training costs for noncertified bus attendants. In the event a bus attendant does not complete the academic year (end of June 2024), a portion of training costs will be reimbursed to Hebrew Public by deduction from final paycheck_.
