SYSTEM ENGINEER

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Montgomery County, Virginia

Montgomery County Information Technology Department has a full-time opening for a System Engineer in their department.

This position is responsible for maintaining the County's VOIP system, as well as supporting, maintaining and configuration of IT infrastructure including servers (such as file, print, mail, and database), virtual systems, switches, and routers.

Serves as an escalation resource for IT staff and backup to Systems Infrastructure Engineer. The position also oversees software releases, patching, and updates, and assists IT staff to resolve software related issues. This position will also deliver training presentations in both one-on-one and small group situations to employees.

The position prefers a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, or a combination of education, skills, and five years related work experience.

Requires on-call participation, as well as occasional evening and weekend work.

Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task with a high level of accuracy; must be able to troubleshoot and use critical thinking; possess thorough knowledge of the latest versions of Windows Server, Exchange, and Microsoft Office; demonstrated ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; effectively prioritize and execute tasks; work seamlessly with team members and independently on tasks; enjoy assisting people and have strong communications skills and excellent customer service skills.
