1. Network Engineering

Subject
APS is seeking an additional contract services resource in support of Network Engineering activities.
Work Scope
Supplier will assist APS with network engineering activities by providing a resource to work at the general direction of Company management. Resource will assist with the following activities:

• Verify requirements are consistent with scope and standards. Confirm with Architects and Senior Network Engineers to complete implementation according to standard.

• Follow change control processes. Be in attendance for required approval meetings such as Engineering Review Board, Pre-CAB, CAB and ECC/ DOC meetings.

• Produce engineering packages in accordance with proper documentation and approvals prior to moving forward with testing or implementation.

• Complete proper testing and validation procedures are met prior to implementation to mitigate failures and Human Performance issues. Test configurations in lab environment prior to production.

• Complete project turnover documentation to set the stage for maintenance success.

• Attend applicable planning and coordination meetings as required.

• Complete Bill of Materials as required for each project and work with Company staff for quoting materials.

• Complete other supporting efforts as project requirements dictated on-time.

• Travel within Arizona may be required for site surveys, implementation and quality assurance.

• Vendor resource shall be onsite for all work performed or at IT approved remote work location. Standard office hours are 8 AM to 5 PM. Alternate work schedule must be approved by IT. There may be instances where after hours work is required.

• Contractor shall be proficient in the following technologies: Azure Cloud Services, Palo Alto, F5, Aruba, Cisco, Juniper, Arista.

• Contract Services will adhere to the direction of the PMO Staff for all project-related deadline

Is this person going to be performing routing and switching?- yes
what (if any) will be required in regards to cisco command line knowledge?- at least a ccna level of knoweldge of the CLI
how big is the cloud component? very important, this is cloud based.
running scripts? (if so, what language?) - no but it is helpful if they have it. There is a gap in the group right now.
cisco vs juniper?- in this environment, more cisco is the cloud space for Score, juniper is in the network but not as predominant. you can learn juniper.
do you sit on the ops team or NOC etc?- They are a dev ops type environment. team is in transition, used to have engineering and IP maintenance and now they are enterprise network services. and they are hinging a supervisor for Ops and then Brad is over both teams. More dev ops- maintenance and engineering.

The utility has been adding battery energy storage to its utility-scale solar plants in Arizona and expanding its renewable energy portfolio, including recently signing a power purchase agreement for 200 megawatts of additional wind energy. More than 9,600 responded – the highest ever.

Business Challenge

Arizona electric utilities facing forces of nature head on
The recent CDP score is one of many examples of how Arizona's three largest utilities — APS, Salt River Project (SRP) and Tucson Electric Power (TEP) — have become some of the most forward thinking companies when it comes to the environment.

It's a matter of survival. Arizona's extreme heat and dry conditions present a unique challenge for electric companies. For example, over the past 25 years, about a dozen Arizona locations topped the nation for having the hottest year, including Buckeye, Laveen, the Yuma airport and Bullhead City. Phoenix is now the hottest city, according to national climate data.

To address the forces of nature head on, the utilities have invested heavily in renewable and clean energy infrastructure and are advancing new technologies like battery storage and solar energy.

They also have been focused on protecting and conserving diminishing water supplies.

SRP, for example, is involved in replenishing the state's water supply through a massive public-private reforestation project, the Four Forest Restoration Initiative (4FRI). The Phoenix region's largest water provider is also on target to meet its 2035 Sustainability Goals, which call for a reduction of CO2 emitted from generation by 65 percent by 2035 and 90 percent by 2050.
