Summary:


  • General office clerical work in support of department operations. Initiate daily assignments, follow through on matters and use independent judgement, and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard reoccurring situations. Provide guidance and training for revenue specialist, answering phone calls from switch board, handling bankruptcy accounts, and retention of all records.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Verifies, collects, and posts county revenue to appropriate accounts for taxes, water, accounts receivable, recordation tax, permits, red light, speed camera and parking tickets.
  • Reconciles a cash drawer, prepare cashier reports and bank deposits.
  • Types correspondence and maintain a correspondence log and file.
  • Verifies and mails accounts payable, jury and section 8 checks.
  • Sorts and verifies payments received in the mail and post to appropriate accounts.
  • Files documents/ transfers, stop payments, bank statements.
  • Receives and routes mail, directs items to staff or County offices as appropriate.
  • Receives, screens, and refers telephone calls; query callers and transfer/refer calls to appropriate staff or other offices; answer technical or substantive questions regarding office operations.
  • Reviews and maintains bankruptcy files.
  • Interacts with bankruptcy attorneys.
  • Assists in updating of County Treasurer's website.
  • Sorts, reviews, investigates, and corrects returned mail received for tax bills and other correspondence regarding taxes.
  • Updates necessary address changes in tax system received from customers and Post Office.
  • Trains Revenue Specialists.
  • Completes work request for office repairs.
  • Maintains and updates retention records for Treasury.
  • Completes payroll.
  • Investigates and takes appropriate action for returned tax payments made by check.
  • Complete Public Information Act (PIA) requests and files.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Education and Experience:


Graduation from a recognized high school or possession of a General Education Development (GED) certificate recognized by the Maryland State Board of Education.

Two (2) years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Special Requirements/Qualifications:


  • Successful completion of credit record investigation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures including the operation of standard office equipment such as 10key calculators, computers, copiers, and printers.
  • Ability to perform cashier duties quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others encountered in the workplace.
  • Ability to assist the public and others to utilize services by explaining, instructing, and advising them regarding their needs, requests, and services provided.

Additional Information:


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The work is sedentary with frequent periods of light physical activity and is performed in office surroundings. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards. The work requires the ability to speak normally and to use normal or aided vision and hearing.
