Description

This is an administrative position responsible for performing creative work in support of the operation of the graphics shop in the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

Responsible for assisting with production of marketing materials, which include brochures, flyers, posters, banners, social media graphics, print and digital ads and other materials; ensuring the quality, consistency and conformity of work output; and assisting with special projects as assigned.

Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to Graphics Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions


  • Produces and designs graphic content for use in print and electronic publications, branding efforts, and communications programs.
  • Creates effective communication and marketing materials, from concept to delivery, that describe and promote internal and external clients.
  • Works collaboratively within a team as well as with internal and external clients, contributing to strategy and tactics.
  • Scans, adjusts, corrects, and artistically manipulates images and photography.
  • Assists other departments with design, graphics, and photo usage, commercial printing, and software and hardware related graphics work.
  • Follows departmental and university guidelines to uphold established editorial standards and graphic identity of official university communications and marketing materials.
  • Ensures the quality, consistency and conformity of work output to internal and external clients.
  • Monitors project schedule to ensure timely project completion and provides periodic project status report to supervisor.
  • Prepares specifications for print vendors, oversees the print vendor bidding process, reviews printer proofs, and confirms delivery of print item to the client. May do similar work for digital use.
  • Provides work direction to departmental student workers.
  • Receives and supervises the receipt of payments from students and others for departmentally sponsored activities.
Non-Essential Job Functions


  • Scans and/or adjusts photos for clients as needed.
  • Assists with routine clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.
  • May edit publications produced by clients.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.


  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of concepts used in marketing copy, graphic design, web graphics, social media graphics, and printing.
  • Skill in designing on a Macintosh computer using software packages such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students and the general public.
  • Ability to think conceptually and creatively.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently.
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
  • Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.
Physical Demands


Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including ability to sit for more than one hour at a time, lift up to 20 pounds, use hands to finger/handle/feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear regularly as well as ability to adjust focus.

Required Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Required Experience and Training

One year of related experience is required. Experience in marketing, advertising, communications or a related field is required. Graphic design experience is required. Experience in designing on a Macintosh computer using software packages such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is required. Additional education may substitute for experience on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate's degree in communications, marketing, graphic design or a related field is preferred.
