Job Summary:

Qualifications:

1: Two years or more of successful experience coaching high school baseball and/or collegiate, professional or elite travel/club baseball.

2: Current first aid and CPR certifications.


Salary:
The stipend for head coach is $3,871.96 annually, paid at the conclusion of the competitive season. Additional compensation is paid at a daily rate for the length of time the team participates in CIF finals.

The daily rate is calculated by dividing the regular stipend amount by the number of days in the regular season.


Benefits:
This position does not meet the eligibility requirements to participate in the District's health and welfare benefits.

Major Duties and Responsibilities of a Varsity Head Coach:

  • Implement the extra-curricular code of La Cañada High School.
  • Adhere to the athletic philosophy of the La Cañada Unified School District and La Cañada High School.
  • Maintain a sound competence and knowledge of the rules, regulations, fundamentals, and strategies of the sport.
  • Possess a working knowledge of first aid and sports medicine procedures to insure the safety and wellbeing of student athletes.
  • Understand the psychological and emotional makeup common to student athletes in order to deal effectively in the area of coach/player relationships.
  • Strictly follow the procedures and rules of La Cañada High School in regard to eligibility, transportation, facilities, equipment, uniforms, awards, banquets, practices, and games.
  • Provide for the physical, emotional, and educational wellbeing of each student athlete.
  • Organize and supervise efficient, safe practices for students.
  • Report any noticeable hazards to the safety and wellbeing of coaches and athletes.
  • Comply with the District mandated goals and objectives.
  • Attend scheduled coaches meetings.
  • Display a professional attitude and pride by being appropriately attired for interscholastic events.
  • Assure that scores are reported to local newspaper sports desks and to the Athletic Director and Sports Coordinators immediately after each event, win or lose.
  • Report winning scores to high school switchboard for a P.A. announcement before school begins, so that the team may be recognized.
  • Review all aspects of the program with the Principal or designee.
  • Coordinate each particular facet of the sport program, including financial budgeting and accounting.
  • Attend Boosters Club meetings whenever possible.
  • Give direct input regarding scheduling of nonleague contests to the Athletic Director.
  • Assist and support the entire athletic program in whatever way possible.
  • Work closely with Athletic Director in carrying out a professional and quality program.
  • Follow proper procedures of attendance and supervision for sixth period athletics if assigned.

Must Have:


  • Specific knowledge of the sport
  • Experience in coaching the sport.
  • Meet all requirements for coaches, including first aid, CPR and CIF training requirements
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good communication skills.
