Director, University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center - Madison, United States - University of Wisconsin Madison

    Default job background
    Description

    Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) invites applications for the position of Director, University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) and Associate Dean for Oncology.

The UWCCC is a matrix center within the SMPH.

Its membership includes more than 325 faculty members from 38 departments and nine schools of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison).

Center members pursue cancer care, research, and education through six scientific programs (Human Cancer Virology, Cancer Genetic and Epigenetic Mechanisms, Tumor Microenvironment, Imaging and Radiation Sciences, Developmental Therapeutics, and Cancer Prevention and Control) supported by 12 Shared Resources.

Since 2015, there has been a consistent yearly increase in NCI research funding, with more than $80M in direct cost cancer-relevant research funding.

In addition, director-controlled philanthropic funds have grown dramatically.

During that period, the UWCCC grew by nearly 100 members, and center leadership expanded the catchment from 36 counties to all 72 counties in Wisconsin, as the only NCI designated cancer center in the state.

The Director of the UWCCC is responsible for its academic activities, as well as management of the resources and supervision of personnel.

The Director works closely with the UW Provost and UW Health Sciences Deans to attain objectives that include transformation of the cultural climate for clinical research, interdisciplinary collaborations in the health sciences, and increased opportunities for basic, clinical, translational, and population health researchers.

UWCCC's Director oversees the broad financial aspects of the UWCCC to ensure optimal use of resources. UWCCC resides within the SMPH with the Director reporting directly to the Dean of SMPH/Vice Chancellor for Medical Affairs.

The Director plays a significant role in establishing research priorities and allocations of resources within the school, and especially for all cancer-related issues at the university.

The Director functions as the chief executive of the center and oversees all SMPH oncology fundraising, and coordinates with the Dean's Office to hire all oncology-related faculty.

The fully integrated academic health system is led by the UW Health CEO, who reports to a board of directors that is chaired by the dean of the SMPH.

The Director is the co-leader of all UW Health clinical cancer services in partnership with UW Health Chief Clinical Officer.

A new centralized cancer service line is led by an inaugural position of Senior Medical Director of Clinical Oncology Services, with shared supervision and reporting to the Director and the health system.

The Director oversees more than 237,00 square feet of research and 156,200 sq ft of clinical space, including authority over space assignments in office, wet and dry lab space.

A new state-of-the-art 350,000 sq ft ambulatory facility, scheduled to open in 2025, will focus on oncology and women's complex care with on-site resources for expanded clinical trials.

SMPH is committed to being a diverse, equitable, inclusive and anti-racist workplace and is an Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer.

Creating synergies among the UWCCC and the UW campus.

Expanding the level and impact of basic, translational, clinical, and population-based cancer research.

Fostering growth in NCI funding and collaborative peer-reviewed awards.

Enhancing bidirectional communication with the center's catchment areas.

Enriching clinical research accrual with an emphasis on underrepresented minority (URM) participation.

    Recruiting new faculty members.

    Increasing educational initiatives.

Implementing innovative clinical programs, evaluating and improving clinical outcomes, and establishing value-based oncology services in partnership with UW Health.

Oversight of all oncology research initiatives.

Leadership of all cancer related fundraising activities.

Accountability for the development, management, and adherence of the center's finances.

Participation in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank.
