Palo Alto High School Speech & Debate is actively seeking part-time coaches for the season across all forensic events.

You must be local to the Palo Alto, CA area and able to work approximately 2 evenings per week for team practices from approximately September 2024 to May 2025.

Coaches are expected to chaperone/coach/judge 2-3 weekend tournaments per semester. Compensation starts at $25/hour. We're especially interested in hiring coaches with longer-term potential (3+ years) to be part our program.

Although relevant competitive and coaching experience in NSDA speech & debate events are great to have, we're most interested in hiring people of exemplary character - embodying qualities such as compassion, curiosity, humility, integrity, self-awareness, responsibility and thoughtfulness.

We don't hire coaches to cut cards or compile block-files; we hire coaches to build relationships and inspire students.

The Palo Alto "Paly" Speech & Debate Program (PASD) is one of the most successful teams in California, ranked #5 out of 240+ high school programs in the state.

The largest extracurricular activity at Palo Alto High School, our membership includes 150+ students and a long line of accomplished, beloved coaches from top schools such as Stanford, UC Berkeley, UPenn, Harvard, and Yale.

Competing at 35+ tournaments from September to June, we offer Congressional Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, Interpretative Speech Events, Lincoln Douglas Debate, Original Oratory, Parliamentary Debate, Platform Speech Events, and Public Forum Debate.

Our program is highly respected for its inclusive, supportive, and tightly-knit culture, and has been consistently recognized for excellent league citizenship, winning three District Awards in 2022, and NSDA Coach of the Year and Administration of the Year in 2024.
