    Essential Job Functions: 1.

    Installs, repairs, adjusts, troubleshoots, services and maintains electronic and mechanical systems for all laboratory equipment, including calibration of related instruments, gauges and controls.


    • Conducts tests of equipment to determine malfunctions or causes of breakdown; removes and replaces faulty parts, subassemblies and major components.
    • Researches and orders parts and supplies for maintenance of equipment.
    • Instructs and advises users of proper operation of equipment.
    • Installs and repairs upholstery for dental chairs.
    • Monitors for accreditation purposes all maintenance records for all dental chairs, instrumentation, dental lights, and dental x-ray machines.
    • Disposes dental x-ray machines or other hazardous waste according to state and county rules and regulations with the appropriate paperwork.
    • On call 24/7 for emergencies and travel to various locations through Miami and Broward.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Marginal Job Functions:

    Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

    • Available on call 24/7 for University emergencies and ability to travel to various locations through Miami and Broward.
    • Work overtime.
    • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings.
    • Working knowledge of all types of dental and dental x-ray equipment.
    • Working knowledge of Internet, Email, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office products.
    • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
    • Strong communication, organizational, documentation, and problem solving skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisory staff at all levels.
    • May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
    • May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils and computer keyboards.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.
    • Must be able to safely lift 85 pounds.
    • Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to pipes, wiring and equipment.
    • Must be able to handle a variety of hand and power tools.
    • Near-visual acuity needed to read equipment diagrams and inspect parts.
    • Depth perception, field of vision and color vision needed in fitting and installing parts.
    • Exposed to noise and vibration from air compressors and vacuums.
    • Must be able to lift any trade tools, material and equipment.
    • Must be able to reach overhead.
    • May be required to work in confined areas to access equipment

    Job Requirements:
    Required Certifications/Licensures: 1. Certification from various dental manufactures.


    • Have and maintain a valid Florida Driver License with no more than three (3) points.
    • Have a valid vehicle registration and insurance

    Required Education:
    High School Diploma or Equivalent Major (if required):

    Required Experience:
    Minimum three (3) years' experience in the dental installation and repair business including, but not limited to dental chairs, x-ray machines, dental unit components, hand-pieces, air compressors, vacuums, and sterilizers, amongst others
