Job PURPOSE Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service. Bags customer's purchases and provides carryout service as requested. Gathers carts from the parking lot and returns them to their proper location in the store. Cleans up miscellaneous spills throughout the store. Cleans restrooms and keeps them well stocked with toilet paper, soap and paper towels. Keeps bag racks full and returns overstock to its proper place.

Front End/Service Manager PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the associate's designated department or elsewhere in the store.
  • Genuinely thanks each customer and invites them back.
  • Assists customers by: (examples include) o escorting them to the products they're looking for o securing products that are out of reach o loading or unloading heavy items o making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests o performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the customers shopping experience.
  • Places merchandise in bags and cart in a neat, organized fashion.
  • Provide carry-out services to customers when appropriate, placing orders in vehicle using proper stacking techniques.
  • Retrieves grocery carts from the parking lot.
  • Retrieves cases of bags from bag storage areas to maintain proper supply at each register.
  • Returns damaged products to proper department or receiving area.
  • Returns milk crates with empty bottles to Dairy department.
  • Eliminates spills and maintains clean floors and surfaces of the store in accordance with company safety and sanitation policies.
  • Maintains premises, including shoveling snow, salting walkways, sweeping, mopping, and maintaining landscaping as directed.
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Understands and practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the janitorial area is always clean, neat and organized according to "5S" standards.
  • Removes trash in a timely manner.
  • Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, Safety and Sanitation regulations, and individual store guidelines.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
  • Protects associates and customers by removing potential hazards from the sales floor and parking lot in a timely manner.

Updated 6/2011 SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
(These are considered occasional in nature) - Assists in other areas of store as permitted by Collective Bargaining Agreement(s). - Performs other job related duties and special projects as required. - Serves samples to customers and communicates proper product features, price, and location within the store.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB:
(Physical demands outlined on attached PAR sheet) - Possess the ability to understand and follow written, verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies orally or in writing. - Visual requirements include clarity of vision at a distance of more than 20 inches and less than 30 feet with color vision, depth perception and field of vision. - Ability to work in various weather conditions; including rain, snow, summer and winter temperatures. - Must be able to work shifts varying in length and times, including nights, weekends and holidays.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
The duties for this position are conducted in an indoor and outdoor environment. There is significant pressure to maintain conditions and handle multiple priorities. There is exposure to dust, noise, cleaning chemicals/solvents and temperature and weather extremes.


EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM JOB:

Equipment used to perform job varies but could include and is not limited to: cart strap, mop, dust mop, step stool, ladder, shovel, broom, box cutter, flat cart, u-boat, plunger, various chemicals for a variety of cleaning duties.


Equipment used if 18 years old:
trash and cardboard compactor


CONTACTS:
Has daily contact with customers, co-workers, suppliers/vendors, and the general public.
