They provide effective customer service to our callers, ensure that our guests are greeted positively, and execute all assigned clerical tasks to the highest quality standards.

With over 400 employees the Office of the Public Defender is the largest of the five indigent defense offices in Maricopa County.
Our office provides innovative, client-centered legal representation in the full range of criminal matters to clients unable to afford legal counsel.

- Six months of clerical experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Multiline telephone system experience
- Basic skills in Windows and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer
- Prior work experience in a legal or criminal justice related setting
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish)
- Manages a highvolume of incoming calls on multiline phone system, screens, directs and transfers calls, answers caller inquiries within realm of authority
- Greets visitors and directs walkin traffic
- Monitors visitor building access and access badges
- Sorts mail and packages for pickup and distribution throughout the office
- Electronically accesses court records and case information to answer inquiries from internal and external customers
- Performs miscellaneous clerical tasks; processes "no complaints filed" cases and closes them out in the case management system.
Interruptions, time pressures, high volume of work, handling multiple or complicated tasks, accuracy, concentration/vigilance, teamwork, public contact, and criminal defendants may be constant occurrences.
Selection ProcedureMust pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive
