Duties:


  • Providing position classification for AFMC positions. Organizations are somewhat complex, and have a wide range of occupations. The specialist classifies positions using Office Position Management (OPM) Classification Standards, precedentsetting appeal decisions, and other guidance.
  • Provides management advisory services to customers on variety of classification issues/scenarios including identifying instances of job dilution, supervisory layering, and proper position management.
  • Uses automated systems to process a variety of position maintenance requests and personnel actions that do not require a Request for Personnel Action such as mass realignments, virtual hierarchy updates, MPCN updates.

Qualifications:


  • Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Administrative and Management Positions.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least three years of general experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band (NH-01) or equivalent in other pay systems.

General experience is progressively responsible experience which demonstrates the ability to: 1. Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; 2. Plan and organize work; and 3. Communicate effectively orally and in writing

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • 1. Knowledge of the full range of classification and position management principles, concepts, practices, and techniques, and of the relationships of other HR specialties to classification.
  • 2. Ability to research, gather facts, and use effective analytical and evaluative methods to accurately assess information and make sound decisions involving position management problems.
  • 3. Ability to maintain harmonious relations with managers, supervisors, employees, coworkers, and others, to ensure cooperative resolution of conflicts, and to provide effective coordination of activities.
  • 4. Ability to express ideas and concepts orally and in writing, and to ensure understanding and acceptance of findings in reports.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S.

education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
